Taneyhill, Boyer, Reinhart, Bainey and Peters Grab Victory in Mid Season Championships at Central PA Speedway
7/16/04
Bill Walker
With double points up for grabs, Dwayne Taneyhill in the Budweiser Late Models and Jason Bainey in the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks took advantage and padded their point leads while Brent Boyer in the Stocker Chevrolet Small Block Modifieds, Emory Reinhart in the Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks and Jason Peters in the Pepsi Chargers were able to gain considerable ground with their victories.
Sixteen Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks were first to roll onto the racing surface with Ron Mitchel and Skip Lindermuth showing the way. At the dropping of the green flag, Reinhart made the strong move from his fourth place starting position to lead lap number one. Lindermuth took up the chase with Doug Tibbens and while working lap four, Tibbens was able to slip by for the position. Reinhart would continue to grow his lead throughout the event as Tibbens, Denny Fenton, Dom Sura and Dan Smeal battled side by side for several laps swapping positions repeatedly. A late race caution would bunch the field up for a last opportunity to catch Reinhart but on the restart he again jumped out to a lead and never looked back gaining his first victory of 2004. Following Reinhart at the line were Sura, Tibbens, Fenton and Trent Ogden.
Ed Connor and Bob McMillen sat on the front row for the Budweiser Late Model main event looking for their initial wins of 2004. With Alan Luzier’s green flag waving, current point leader Dwayne Taneyhill wasted no time moving around the front row duo to lead lap number one. Connor held second trying to run down the leader as Shawn McGarvey, currently second in points started making his way through the field. Using the high line, sixth place starter Jason Witherite looked like a man on a mission, he and Chuck Kennedy battled for several laps side by side until Witherite was able to get a good run and move by for good. Next in the sights would be Connor who was still giving chase from the second position. Once again using the high line Witherite powered by for second. Back in the pack McGarvey and T.J. Fleck had a tough going as they just couldn’t find the fast way around. Still out front Taneyhill showed the way with Witherite closing the gap hoping for a caution. The caution would not come however as Taneyhill went onto the victory. Witherite, Connor, Kennedy and Bernie Whiteford in his best run of 2004 rounded out the top five.
In the Stocker Chevrolet Small Block Modified main event Brent Boyer must have won the lucky dog award as for the second week in a row sat on the pole. Boyer jumped to the point on the initial start trying to leave the rest of the field behind to battle for second. Mark Frankhouser would try to keep the leader in sight but was soon receiving challenges for his position from Bill Krause. Kevin Hoffman would make a move by Krause and begin to work Frankhouser’s mount. While working lap nine Hoffman began to experience troubles that eventually forced him to the pits for the evening. A fast moving Lyle Sherwood was making his way through the field when the caution flew and he found himself a part of it placing him at the rear of the field to start over again. In the end it was Boyer grabbing the victory followed by Frankhouser, Krause, Mike Stine and Matt Baker.
Rob Bailey and Jeff Mease would lead the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks onto the racing surface for their main event and with green in the air Mease showed he knew how to get around the three eights mile speed plant to lead lap one. Point leader Jason Bainey would follow and by lap number two was showing the way. Chad Bender would make the move to get by Mease a lap later and quickly began to run down the leader but while working lap nine, Bender would loose the handle going into turn one and bring out the caution. Aaron Walker would be next to challenge the leader over the final four laps but Bainey was just too strong and garnered the victory. Following the winner Bainey were Walker, Bender, Mease and Kevin Clark.
The final show if the evening would truly be a show as the Pepsi Chargers took to the speedway. Jim Woomer and Rob Williams would sit on the front row at the dropping of the green flag. Almost immediately the entire file was racing side by side and trading paint but racing rookie Brandon Connor showed the way and led lap number one. The King of the Chargers Denny Weisgarber was making his move from the rear of the field but tangled with another machine and Jason Peters made the move around Connor to lead lap number two. Peters was able to build a big lead while everyone behind him battled for position. Weisgarber was able to rebound and move his car into the second position and began to give chase. With the white flag waving Weisgarber was able to close the gap but Peters held him off for the victory. Crossing behind Peters were Weisgarber, Connor, Woomer and Mark Vail.
Next weeks racing will be a regular show for the Budweiser Late Models, Stocker Chevrolet Small Block Modifieds, Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks, Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks and Pepsi Chargers.
See you all next week at the BIG BEAR where you can feed your hunger for excitement!
