Central PA Speedway Welcomes Seven Winners to Victory Lane in Action Packed Evening

6/18/04
Bill Walker

On a night where there was a lot to do, Central PA Speedway wasted no time getting to the action and repeat wins were in the stars for Bill Krause, Denny Weisgarber, Denny Fenton, Duane Taneyhill, Brent Boyer and Craig Bainey, while Chad Bender picked up his first ever win at the areas fastest short track.

First to take to the three eights mile speed plant was the make up feature for the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds. Front row starters Bill Krause and Scott “Snuffy” Smith went in completely opposite directions as the green flag waved. Krause immediately moved out front with Derek Rodkey in tow, while Smith’s mount faulted and he quickly began to backslide. Fourth and fifth place starters Brad Rapp and Kevin Dickson quickly picked up the chase and began to track the leaders. Working lap four Dickson was able to move by Rapp and sat his sights on the lead duo. A caution just before the midway point would set the run to the checkers for the lead trio, on lap ten former feature winner Brent Boyer joined the chase but Krause was able to hold off all comers to record his second victory of 2004.

The make up feature for the Lias Tier Pure Street Stocks would be next on the blocks. Frank Little and Chad Bender would set on the front row and at the waving of Alan Luzier’s green flag Bender immediately took control and moved to the head of the pack. By lap number two Craig Bainey and Ryan Jacoby moved to second and third respectively and began to chase the leader. A lone caution on lap three slowed the field and put Bainey on Benders rear bumper. The two would do battle as eleventh place starter Aaron Walker began to make his way through the field. By lap six Walker had moved into the third position but with just four laps remaining the distance was too great and Bender garnered his career first victory at Central PA Speedway.

With the make up features complete the Pepsi Chargers would be the first onto the racing surface for the regular nights racing. With just four cars in the feature, the possibility of a sleeper was obviously present, but with Jason Peters, Denny Weisgarber and Nathan Russell racing door to door the entire first lap, those feelings were put to rest. Russell would lead the first lap but Weisgarber moved by the most recent feature winner to claim the top spot. Russell and Peters gave chase but the “King of the Chargers” was just too strong and snatched his second victory of the season.

Next out would be the Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks with Jamie Barber (looking for career victory number 1) and Jason Walker on the front row. At the onset Walker quickly moved past Barber and looked as though he may be on the way to his second victory of the season. While working lap four Dan Smeal worked by Walker to assume the lead. Walker fought back and on lap seven the duo were involved in an incident that sent Walker’s machine to the pits and Smeal’s to the tail of the field. Emory Reinhart Jr. would inherit the lead and set his sights on winning his first Central PA Speedway main event but Denny Fenton had other thoughts. The eleventh place starting Fenton moved his way cautiously through the field and on lap twelve wrestled the second position away from Dayton Nixon. Fenton then reeled in Reinhart and with two laps to go made a move on the inside of turns one and two to claim the lead. Reinhart tried to recover but Fenton was able to hold him off to gather his third victory of the season.

A full field of twenty four Budweiser Late Models would answer the starters call and at the waving of the green, Dwayne Taneyhill grabbed the lead. First to give chase would be Chuck Kennedy but while working the second lap, Shawn McGarvey slipped past Kennedy and began to shadow Taneyhill’s every move. McGarvey would try time after time to get by Taneyhill but each time Taneyhill would slam the door closed. A caution with just three laps remaining would give McGarvey a chance to beat Taneyhill on one last restart, but Taneyhill had too much muscle and picked up his second victory in a row at Central PA Speedway.

The Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds would head out for their second main of the evening with newcomer Greg Luzier and Tyrone’s Marvin Williams on the front row. A lap one incident caused a complete restart and put the 34 of Kevin Dickson out of order for the remainder of the evening. Once the green was waving, Brent Boyer wasted no time putting his Dirt Works machine out front from his fourth place starting position. Bob Garvey would follow Boyer into the second position and try to gain an advantage but on each restart Boyer would simply drive away. In the end it was Boyer copping his second win in the past three events giving him quite a bit of confidence heading into next weeks Modified Mania.

In the final event of the evening the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks made their way out with cousins Jason and Craig Bainey on the front row. Jason moved out front and Craig was not content to ride second for very long. Working lap four Craig moved past to claim the lead but the victory would not be an easy one. Craig had to endure challenges from Jason and then Aaron Walker who on lap eight had gotten by Jason for second. Over the final few laps Craig was able to open a small lead and gain the victory by just a couple of car lengths over Walker.

Eighty Nine cars filled the pit area with twenty five Budweiser Late Models, twenty one Stocker Chevrolet Small Block Modifieds, seventeen Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks, twenty one Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks and five Pepsi Chargers.

Next weeks racing will feature “Modified Madness” with the first ever appearance of the big block, BRP Modified Tour and a $1000 to win main event for the Stocker Chevrolet Small Block Modifieds, a regular show for the Shortway Services Inc. Street Stocks and Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks are also on tap. The Budweiser Late Models will have a practice session for the upcoming “Yankee Doodle” but will not be in racing action.

Hope to see you all next week at "The Big Bear."
