Ladouceur takes Pro Stock Nationals, Kaz tops in ESS event at Cornwall

CORNWALL-A minor problem in his heat race was the only thing that could slow down Alexandria’s Joey Ladouceur on Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway. Ladouceur captured the 50 lap Empire Sports Network Super DIRT Series Home Hardware Pro Stock Nationals as well as the special $600 to win Blast for Cash.

Ladouceur’s crew quickly repaired a broken spring pocket sustained in a minor shunt in his heat. They tested it win an impressive win in the winner take all dash and then after a few more changes to enable the 92.1 to run both the low and high grooves, the car rocketed through the field in the 50 lap feature. The biggest concern was a gaggle of caution flags late in the race, but Ladouceur was able to hold off a very game Louis Jackson for the victory. PJ Peters was a strong third followed by Stephane Labrun and Buddy Hencke

In the 25 lap ESS feature, Dan Kaszubinski started near the front and led almost the entire distance to capture his 6th win of the season. Lance Yonge came through the field to put up a challenge but settled for second behind the 20 car. The Sprints were clocked with laps under 12 seconds during their heat races. The VanDusens, Mike and Jeff were third and fourth respectively while teenager Nick Fratto claimed the fifth spot.

Dale Planck put one more nail into the coffin of the other Modified drivers in the pursuit of the track title. Planck won his 7th feature win of 2004, but first since early July. The crowd was treated to a sizzling run through the field from 16th starting spot to second by Stephane LaFrance, who was faster than everyone else with the exception of Planck. Laurent Ladouceur, who challenged just past the halfway point was third, followed by son Lee and Dave Heaslip.

Bruce Merpaw was handed a gift on the final lap of the 15 circuit Semi Pro event. Merpaw took the top spot after Carey Terrance making his move for glory, spun in the process. Greg Ezard followed Merpaw across the finish line with Joey Woods, Dion Oakes and Gaetan Amesse rounding out the fast five.
