Poirier wins both race and Canadian DIRT Challenge

CORNWALL-Steve Poirier left no doubt who the dominant force in this years Canadian DIRT Challenge series was. Poirier who came into the final race of the three track event with the points lead finished off his second crown with the win in the Goodyear 100 Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Poirier who won the opener of the series at Autodrome Edelweiss and followed it up with the top 10 at Autodrome Granby earlier this week. It looked for most of the race that Poirier would have to settle for second spot this night. Dale Planck charged from his 11th starting position to take the top spot on lap 15. However, around lap 25, Planck brushed the front straightaway wall in lapped traffic. He was able to hold onto the top spot until lap 95 despite losing the brakes on his machine. The car slid high in turn 3 and 4 allowing Poirier to go by and take the lead and the race. Laurent Ladouceur ended up in the runner up spot with Planck third followed by Danny O Brien, who recovered from lap 3 spin to finish fourth. Stephane LaFrance grabbed the final top five position.

Joey Ladouceur completed a perfect week in the Pro Stock division, winning his third straight feature event in the last 5 days and his fifth of the season at Cornwall. Ladouceur took the top spot in the opening half of the race from Mitchell Jock and was never challenged the rest of the way.

Joe Woods captured his second Semi Pro feature of the season. Woods benefitted from a spectacular pileup on the back straightaway that included 10 cars including points leader Carey Terrance. He ended up going from wire to wire for the win. Dion Oakes with some nifty moves on the final restart ended up second in front of Marc Ladouceur, Kevin Fetterly Jr and Ghislain Valade.

The best finish of the night came in the 12 lap Rookie battle. Scott Nurse led the first 11 laps but was having a hard time holding off Kurtis McPhee and Bob Ray. McPhee who went into the final lap 3rd managed to be the first one to the finish line, Ray was second and Nurse ended up in the third spot.
