Planck celebrates 4th of July with Fifth win of year at Cornwall
CORNWALL-Dale Planck celebrated the 4th of July north of the border. Planck ripped through the field from his 11th starting position to take the lead on lap 16 and went on to win his 5th feature of the year Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway.
The key to the win for Planck was the ability to run a low groove in turns 1 and 2, that no one else could find the key for. Planck used that groove on the lap 16 restart to blast by Stephane LaFrance to take the top spot and then proceeded to rip off 13.4 second laps to pad his advantage. LaFrance was second in front of John Lazore, Laurent Ladouceur and Mark Hitchcock.
Louis Jackson and Roy Delomier hooked up in a barnburner finish in the Pro Stock division. Jackson finally got past on the next to last lap as the two cars touched coming down the front straight and then held on for the win. Delormier was a car back at the line in second, followed by Stephane Labrun, Joey Ladouceur and Clayton Benedict.
Dave Renaud dominated from start to finish in taking the 15 lap Semi Pro main. Renaud survived debris, including 3 tires coming off various cars to score the victory. Gaetan Amesse, Kevin McRae, Mike McDonald and Dan Mitchell rounded out the top five.
There was a first time winner in the Rookie class. Gerry Oszczakiewicz, better known to his fans as Gerry O survived a final lap restart to hold onto his lead and capture his first Cornwall victory. Andrew Russell was second with Kurtis McPhee, Donald Leduc and Nico Leblanc third through fifth respectively.
The Speedway returns to action next Sunday night with Demolition Derby in addition to the regular full program of racing. The green flag drops at 7 pm.
