Press Release
Danny O'Brien took home the checkered flag for his 4th modified win of the season, at the Cornwall Motor Speedway. The Kingston, Ontario driver started 12th in the 16 car field and was able to use 5 cautions in the first 7 laps to work his way into 2nd spot along side the number 5 car of Graham Gorman. Gorman used his 2nd starting position to hold onto the lead until O'Brien took over for good on the restart of lap 7. "It's the first time the car started to overheat this year," said an excited O'Brien, "but it's still a win."
O'Brien has won 4 of the 6 modified features at Ron Morin's speedplant this season (Luc Plante won the other 2). Laurent Ladouceur finished a strong 2nd with Dave Heaslip coming in 3rd. Bill Mullin (4th) and Graham Gorman (5th) rounded out the top 5.
In the Late Model feature, Cornwall driver Marcel Pecore worked his way into the winner's circle for the first time since making the jump from the Rookie class. Pecore grabbed the lead on lap 11 and raced to the checkered flag ahead of the N17 of Marc Therrien, who finished 2nd. The Williamstown native finished just ahead of Alexandria's Dave Bissonette.
Stephane Lemire won the Duke feature. The win was Lemire's first of the season at Cornwall.
Kees Van Winden took home his first feature win in the Rookie stock.
The Green Mamba Car driven by Doug Rose lite the night up when he melted a station wagon to the ground with his jet car. It is always a pleasure to have such a great showman visit our Track. Doug performed his feat on the back stretch after all the races were complete.
On Sunday, July 4th, the summer heat will take a backseat to another full racing program. Modifieds, Late Models, Duke and Rookie drivers will be looking to keep the points race tight. And being that it's a holiday weekend for most, fireworks will be a part of the show. It's also a chance for race fans to get an autograph from their favourite drivers. Racing begins at 7.
