TAKE FROGTOWN TOP HONORS

HOGANSBURG, NY ... They say you can't beat Mother Nature, but the Frogtown International Speedway drivers, owners and fans say yes, it can be done. One hour before race time, a down pour hit the speedway leaving in its path what seemed to be an impossible situation, but speedway President Dennis White, his family and officials said no way is this weather going to beat us tonight. So the determined drivers took to the track and before you knew it, the cars were on the track for their qualifying heats. Because of track conditions, continuously changing as the night went on, a lot of different numbers and faces were in the front racing for top spots.

In the 7th running of the Kanienkahaka Fuels 25 for the DIRT 358 Modifieds, Alan Jacobs picked up his first ever DIRT 358 Modified victory.

Kevin Fetterly and Tammy Jalbert started on the front row with Fetterly grabbing the early lead. Kevin's lead was short lived though as Jimmy Lazore came up through quickly from his 4th starting spot and grabbed the lead. Dave Heaslip and Brian McDonald who started 8th and 10th quickly made their way to the front as well and tucked in behind the leader. On lap #6, Heaslip took the lead with McDonald following close behind. A great battle for the lead followed with McDonald taking the lead on lap #11 followed by Heaslip, Kevin Fetterly, Tammy Jalbert and Mike Reyell. Back in the pack, Alan Jacobs who started 14th on the starting grid was flying up through the field and by lap #13, found himself in third. It appeared that "Slim" had this one in the bag when he suddenly slowed with just two laps to go and exited to the pits. Jacobs had moved into second place by that time and probably could not believe what he saw when McDonald went to the pits.

Alan continued on for the well earned victory and as he crossed the finish line, the Frogtown fans went into a frenzy as Jacobs, who not more than two years ago was an Enduro driver, took home his first ever DIRT 358 Modified victory. The celebration did not stop there as Mike Reyell and Tammy Jalbert crossed the line second and third with Reyell shaking his fist in the air as he went by in celebration after getting his first top five finish in many years. Mark Hitchcock and a very determined Jeff Sykes overcame problems early in the race to round out the top five.

In the DIRT Pro Stock feature, the fans celebrated another victory that everyone has been waiting for as young popular star Clayton Benedict finally found his way to the Mohawk Bingo Palace victory lane. After a short battle with Jody Swamp and Aaron Day, Benedict opened up a sizeable lead and never really looked back. Jody Swamp barely held on for second as he finished just a few feet in front of a determined Aaron Day. Day settled for third with Ricky Thompson and PJ Peters rounding out the top five.

In the Semi Pro division, Carey Terrance, who seems to be a man on a mission to claim the 2004 championship, won a very important race in his quest for the crown.

Kelvin Clement grabbed the early lead but by lap #2, Jack Johnson made his way to the front and grabbed the lead from Clement. Johnson led for six laps until Dion Oakes "came a callin" and took the lead on lap #7 but could not hold it as problems sent him to the pits. Dick Planty inherited the lead on lap #9 with Terrance now in second and a very intense and fierce battle insured right up until lap #14 when suddenly Planty spun around in turn #4.

Terrance grabbed the lead on the last lap and held on for a major victory to slowly close the gap on current points leader Steven Brand. Chad Vallance stayed steady to finish second with Kevin Fetterly, Jr., Steve Brand and Corey Jalbert rounding out the top five.

In the Bandit division, Bob Ray took the lead from Jody Foster on lap #3 and held off Stuart Mossow in the #101 to win the Kanienkahaka Fuels 12 lap main event for the class. Claudia Tarbell, Jeb Beeson and Chris Cooke rounded out the top five.

In the Enduro main event, Bennett White claimed an emotional victory that touched the hearts of all the Frogtown Speedway family in every area and every division. White claimed that it would be too hard to return to racing after the death of his brother but encouragement from fans, friends and family changed his mind as Bennett returned to racing and claimed a very emotional victory. It seemed only fitting that Garrett White's long time rival "The Rock" Rock Niles be in the hunt for the top spot but Niles could not catch the speedy White as Bennett went on for the victory. Rock Niles finished second with Leon Delormier, Ronnie Gibson and Mitch Square rounding out the top five.

Next week it will be Wolfclan Truck Stop night at the speedway with two major events on the card along with track championships on the line. The 4th running of the Frogtown Race of Champions will be the main event for the DIRT 358 Modifieds that will feature a 50 lap Syracuse qualifier. The DIRT Pro Stock part of the program will feature the final leg of the Coors Light Pro Stock Series. The Semi Pros, Bandits and Enduro class will be feature on the card as well.
