MIKE PERROTTE RETURNS TO FROGTOWN SPEEDWAY VICTORY LANE

Hogansburg, NY ... Mike Perrotte of Morrisonville, New York made a return trip to a track where he has had much of his success over the years and showed everybody that he hasn't missed a beat by claiming the Mohawk Spring Water / St. Lawrence Centre / LaFrance Performance 25 lap main event for the 358 Modifieds this past Saturday night at Frogtown.

Jeff Marshall and Allen Jacobs started on the front row with Jeff grabbing the early lead. On lap #3, Allen Jacobs grabbed the lead from Marshall followed closely now by Marshall, Boomer McIntyre, Mark Hitchcock and Leon Gonyo. Back in the pack, Perrotte who started 17th in the field of 27 was making his move and on lap #13, found himself in the top five. After a battle for second with longtime North Country rival Leon Gonyo, Perrotte moved into the #2 spot on lap #14 and began to set his sites on Jacobs. The popular Jacobs looked to be taking a trip to the Mohawk Bingo Palace Victory Lane for the first time in his 358 Modified career until lap #20 when Allen got a little high coming out of turn #2 allowing just enough room for the determined Perrotte to squeeze by and take the lead followed by Jacobs, Leon Gonyo, Mark Hitchcock, Peter Mantha (who by the way started 26th), and Boomer McIntyre. On lap 21, Jacobs spun in turn #4 bringing out the caution and ending a chance for the young star to try and take the lead and win his first feature in a 358 Modified.

On the restart, Perrotte grabbed the lead once again followed by Leon Gonyo who would have like nothing better than to find a way to get by Perrotte after having such a fabulous run and make his way to victory lane in front of his long time rival from the area. But it was not to be as Perrotte remained tough and began to pull away in lap #23. The incredible and record setting run that amazed the Frogtown faithful by Hull, Quebec's Peter Mantha came to an abrupt end on the same lap with the former Memorial Cup Champion heading to the pits. Perrotte went the rest of the way to pick up his first win at Frogtown in 2004. Leon Gonyo finished an incredible second much to the delight of the crowd with Boomer McIntyre having a great run as well ending up third. The always consistent Mark Hitchcock finished fourth with Chris Jones coming from his 14th starting spot to finish 5th.

In the DIRT Pro Stock 20 lap feature event, Jody Swamp of Akwesasne had his fast #69 DIRT Pro Stock hooked up perfectly and went on to win his first feature of the 2004 season. Swamp who started 10th in the event got off to a good start and found himself 3rd after just two laps of the feature had gone by. Things got a lot tougher from there on out though as Mitchell Jock, who grabbed the lead right from the get go was determined to hold it. Some great side by side action ensued for the next 10 laps until Mitchell spun on lap #14. Clayton Benedict came flying up through the field from his 11th starting spot and both he and Louie Jackson tried to turn up the heat on Jody but Swamp never swayed off his line and went on for the win. Clayton Benedict finished second with Louie Jackson, PJ Peters and Junior Barnes rounding out the top five.

In a caution filled Semi Pro feature, popular Dick Planty held off a very determined Steven Brand for a win that delighted the Frogtown fans. Harvey Arquette finished 3rd with Jack Johnson and Greg Ezard rounding out the top five.

In the Bandit feature, Billy "Woo Woo" Woodward made it two for two on the weekend coupling a win at Frogtown with a big win at Brockville on Friday night. Woodward grabbed the lead about halfway through the race and never looked back. Points leader Trevor White finished second with Stuart Mossow, Ernie Cree and David Page rounding out the top five.

In the Enduro Class, Rock Niles won his third of the season as he out distanced Garrett White of Akwesasne for the popular win. Next week it will be Valley Paper / Tupia's Custom Black Topping, Inc. night at the speedway with a regular card of racing for all classes including a Semi Pro powder puff for the ladies and kiddies rides during the intermission.
