KOLKA WINS FIRST MODIFIED FEATURE

Middletown, NY: In only his 3rd start in the big block Modifieds, Mike Kolka of Middletown, NY won the D&T Food Service 30 lap feature Saturday night. The DIRT Sportsman graduate started on the pole and led all the way as only a single caution marred the event. Mike DePalma was a distant second followed by Colin Jackson, defending champion Jeff Heotzler and sophomore modified pilot David Van Horn. The only yellow, appearing on lap 20, didn't change the top five running order.

The 358 Modified feature was a Syracuse qualifier as Chuck McKee of Middletown, NY claimed his 4th career small block win taking the 25 lap main event. McKee led through lap two, lost the lead on a restart, but regained it when lap 3 was aborted due to a tangle off turn two. Tom Hindley, Jimmy Johnson, Frank Jashembowski and Heotzler filled the remaining top five spots.

The 20 lap DIRT Sportsman feature went to Mike Ruggiero of Newburgh, NY for his first career win. However, in a post race inspection, he was deemed illegal with a welded distributor.

Because the DIRT Sportsman division is a DIRT circuit class, Ruggiero was penalized by receiving last place points and last place money. He keeps the win however. Rich Coons, Stan Jablonka, Brian Ford, and Brett Ford completed the top five.

Jamie McGannon of Pomona, NY won his second straight Expert Pro Stock feature. The rookie division feature went to Don Carlson of Ridgefield, Ct. who made it 3 wins in three starts in the division.

The Pure Stocks ran split features with Emerson Cargain, Jr. of Mahopac, NY and Al D'Antonio from Highland Lakes, NJ taking checkered flags. It was the second straight for both.

Racing returns Saturday night, May 8 with a regular program of Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks sponsored by Torrisi Agway and Mid-City Transit. The first event in the 48 State Synthetic Lube and Filter Summer series for Pure Stocks will be held.
