JOHNSON FLIES TO SEVENTH WIN OF THE SEASON ON RAYMOND'S CAR CARE NIGHT
FULTON, NY...Alan Johnson returned to victory lane at Fulton Speedway last Saturday after winning the 35-lap DIRT 358 Modified feature on Raymond's Car Care Night. The victory was the seventh of the season for the Phelps, N.Y. driver at the Home of the Victoria 200. With the victory Johnson adds to his point lead in search of his second ever season track title at Fulton Speedway.
Andy Powell raced out to the early lead at the start of the Raymond's Car Care DIRT 358 Modified feature from the pole starting position. Action slowed on lap one with a multi-car crash. A total of 11 cars were collected in the mishap with Ken Johnson and Don Spatorico the only two not able to continue. Jimmy Phelps took the lead away from Powell on lap three.
With five laps complete Phelps continued to lead and was being chased by Johnson, Tim Fuller, Powell and Tim Burnett. Johnson took the lead away from Phelps on lap 10. Johnson wasted no time in moving up from the 18th starting position. Fuller moved into second spot on lap 12 and the battle for the win was on.
At the halfway mark Johnson and Fuller wer now being followed by Matt Sheppard. Sheppard was one of the drivers caught in the multi-car crash and he had to restart from the rear. Phelps and Tom Sears completed the top five at the halfway mark. In the final half of the race Johnson and Fuller put on another great show for the feature win.
The duo raced in and out of lapped traffic while battling for the $1,500 winners check. The lead never changed hands at the start/finish line, but Johnson and Fuller raced side by side on several occasions. On the final lap coming out of the fourth turn Fuller almost pinned Johnson behind some lapped cars.
Johnson was able to hold on to the hard earned win. Johnson and crew were forced to make repairs after a heat race incident. Fuller had to settle for second with Sheppard, Phelps and Gordy Button completing the top five feature finishers. A total of 25-cars started the Raymond's Car Care main event.
Chad Phelps won his first ever DIRT Sportsman feature race last Saturday night. Donnie Wetmore Jr., Mark Yorker, Mike Button and Tim Sears followed Phelps across the finish line. Wetmore took the lead away Phelps on lap 18. Phelps came right back and he took the top spot back and earned his victory.
Jeremy Clark claimed another DIRT Pro Stock feature win at Fulton Speedway last Saturday night. Jason Rood, T.J. Fitzgibbons, Ricky Breed and Lee Burnett followed Clark across the finish line. Clark took the lead away from Rood on lap 16 and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.
John Pietrowicz returned to Pure Stock competition last Saturday night and claimed the feature win. Darren Kelso, Jeff Pastorella, Ricky DeGroff and Chris Cunningham completed the top five feature finishers behind Pietrowicz. Pietrowicz took the lead away from Kelso on lap 12 and led the rest of the distance in the 15-lap event.
Jerry Herbert claimed the win in the 39-car Four Cylinder Enduro last Saturday night. Jason Spalding, Rodney Buskey, Ray Wilson and Dan Hoffman followed Herbert across the finish line.
Racing will continue this Saturday at Fulton Speedway with the DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks all in competition.
