ALAN JOHNSON WINS THE BURKE’S HOME CENTER SHOWDOWN AT SUNDOWN
FULTON, NY…Alan Johnson claimed the win in the Burke’s Home Center 5th Annual Showdown at Sundown at Fulton Speedway last Tuesday night. Johnson dominated the last portion of the Turning Stone Casino 358 Modified Super DIRT Series Race. It was Johnson’s third win of the season at Fulton Speedway, his first in the Mariotti Motorsports car. The victory was worth $3,000.
Brett Hearn raced out to the early lead at the start of the Burke’s Home Center 100 from the outside pole starting position. Hearn was fast right from the start, at a track where he has never entered the winners’ circle. Hearn would lead the opening 14 laps of the race before he slowed with a flat right front tire. He was able to pit and return to the rear of the field in the lead lap.
Vic Coffey inherited the top spot on lap 15. Coffey would lead the 32-car starting field until lap 20. On lap 21 Danny Johnson, the defending race champion, took command of the field. Danny was looking to run away and hide from his brother, but that was not about to happen. Alan started to close the gap on Danny and took command of the field on lap 37.
The eighth and final caution period of the race came on lap 39. The final 61 circuits were all under green flag conditions. Once Alan Johnson opened up his lead, he was never challenged for the victory at his home track. Danny followed his brother and finished second. Steve Paine drove a steady race to finish third. Pete Bicknell earned the Bert Hard Charger Award as he came from the 21st starting spot to finish fourth. Defending Fulton Speedway Track Champion Matt Sheppard completed the top five finishers.
Jeremy Clark won his fourth Pro Stock feature of the season last Tuesday night. Clark claimed the win and was followed by Lee Burnett. Clark and Burnett are currently tied for the point lead in the class. Ricky Breed, Steve Devos and T.J. Fitzgibbons completed the top five feature finishers. Clark took command of the field on lap six and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.
Mark Webb won his first ever Fulton Speedway Pure Stock feature during the Tuesday night special. Dave Mannise, Ken Conners, Chris Cunningham and Joe Buske completed the top five feature finishers. Webb took the lead away from Mannise on lap-13 and led the rest of the way in the 15-lap event.
Racing continues every Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Home of the Victoria 200. DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks are all in weekly race competition. The next major special at Fulton Speedway is Saturday, July 27 when the Empire Super Sprints make their only appearance of the season. Track information is available at (315) 593-6531 or 668-RACE.
