Danny O Brien brings the house down with Super DIRT Series win at the BOS
BROCKVILLE-The look of satisfaction in victory lane, the huge cheer from the fans said it all, Danny O’Brien has returned to the winners circle at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Kingston driver led the final 95 laps to take the Coca-Cola 100, race 3 of this year’s Turning Stone Casino Super DIRT Series for 358 Modifieds on Tuesday night.
O’Brien drew the pole position for the big race but the event didn’t get off to a great start as youngster Justin Haers rocketed off the outside pole to take the lead when the green flag waved. O’Brien got the lead on lap 8 restart after a multi car mishap in turn 2 that took out defending race winner Danny Johnson. Steve Paine steadily worked his way through the field finally grabbing the second spot.
Paine would put the pressure on the Pocket Rocket on each restart but O Brien would then respond by pulling out a couple of car length advantage. It looked like the former Brockville champ was home and cooled out when a caution flag flew on lap 99 setting up a green, white, checkered finish. Paine took his last shot coming low through turns 3 and 4 on the final lap but finished two tenths of a second behind.
Two time defending BOS track champ Lee Gill saw his undefeated streak at Brockville come to an end but still managed a very impressive third place finish. Pete Bicknell edged out Alan Johnson at the finish line for the fourth spot. They were followed by Brett Hearn, Frank Caprara, Pat Ward, Vic Coffey and Bill Gill. It was also a night to remember for Brockville rookie Mike Addersley. The friday night regular from Watertown set fast time in the star studded field of 47 cars with a 14.3 second trip around the quarter mile oval.
Rosco Garreau of Alexandria won for the second time in 5 days in the rookie class. He lead all 25 laps holding off teammate Roch Aubin and Danielle Legault.
The Empire Super Sprints show scheduled for May 31st will be made up on Friday night, at 7:30. Ryan Coniam of Burlington, Ontario scored his first ESS win in this event last season and is coming off another victory at Can-Am Motorsports Park last week. He’ll be challenged by hometown hero Rick Wilson and multi time ESS champ Mike Woodring. The Modifieds will also be on hand to make it a twin bill.
