JOHNSON FLIES TO FULTON SPEEDWAY WIN ON ALLTEL NIGHT
IN NEW MARONEY DIRT 358 MODIFIED
FULTON, NY...Alan Johnson simply dominated the field last Saturday night at Fulton Speedway. Johnson claimed his second win of the season on Alltel Night in the brand new Maroney Motorsports Bicknell DIRT 358 Modified. Johnson earned $1,500 for the win which came in front of the largest crowd of the season at the home of the Victoria 200. In the process Johnson remains in contention for the 2001 track title.
Jim Witko Jr. raced out to the early lead at the start of the 35 lap DIRT 358 Modified feature from the pole starting position. After five laps Witko continued to lead and was being followed in the top five by Dave Reilley, John Barker, Ryan Baye and Bill Shantel. Witko would lead the opening nine laps of the feature.
Baye took the lead away Witko on lap 10. Baye was running strong, but Johnson was clearly on the move. It was on lap 15 when Johnson took the top spot away from Baye. Johnson worked up masterfully from the 16th starting position. At the halfway mark Johnson was being followed in the top five by Baye, Jeff Rudalavage, Reilley and John Ramsey.
The entire 35 lap feature was only slowed for two caution periods. The long stretch of green flag racing allowed plenty of side by side racing throughout the field. Johnson went on to his second win of the season in the brand new Maroney Motorsports DIRT 358 Modified. Rudalavage drove a steady race and finished second. Baye had his best outing of the season with a third. Matt Sheppard came back from a early race tangle to finish fourth and Tim Burnett completed the top five feature finishers.
Greg Doust won his first DIRT Sportsman feature of the season last Saturday night. Doust won in a photo finish over Tim Sears. Tom Juhl, Mike Button and Gordy Button completed the top five feature finishers in the best race of the night. Doust took the lead away from Mike Button on lap 12 and went on to the thrilling win in the 20 lap event.
Tom Barron returned to the winners circle at the conclusion of the 20 lap Pro Stock feature event. It was the sixth win of the season for Barron. John Pietrowicz, Jerry Holmes, Dave Moyer and T.J. Fitzgibbons completed the top five feature finishers. Barron took the lead away from Moyer on lap six and led the rest of the distance.
John Pietrowicz won his third Pure Stock feature of the season last Saturday night. Pietrowicz was followed by Bruce Stanton, Paul Mercier, Darren Kelso and Chris Cunningham. Darren Kelso led the opening four laps of the feature before Pietrowicz took command on lap five of the 15 lap event.
FULTON NOTES---The final Family Autograph Night of the season was highly successful. The entire front straight was crowded with the drivers, cars and fans...A total of 34 DIRT 358 Modifieds attempted to qualify for the main event...The DIRT Sportsman field numbered the 30 mark...Fans were treated to multi-groove three and four wide competition...Racing continues this Saturday with the DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks and Four Cylinder Enduro racers.
