PEASLEY BECOMES 12th DIFFERENT LM WINNER BY EARNING CAREER FIRST WIN AT GAMBLERS; SMITH NEW MOD WINNER

CLEARFIELD, PA - Leon Peasley of Lock Haven won his first career Budweiser Late Model feature, on Hyde Fire Company Trophy night, Saturday at Gamblers Raceway Park. The win makes Peasley the 12th different late model winner this season.
Scott "Snuffy" Smith of Woodland won his first Sid's Subs Small Block Modified feature in two years, while Dan Smeal of Houtzdale won his fifth 84 Lumber Street Stock feature, Cecilia Olson of Clearfield won her fourth Denny's Beer Barrel Pub Four Cylinder feature and Gary Little of Woodland won his seventh Fred Diehl of Philipsburg Pure Stock Feature.
Tammy Graham of Clearfield won the first ever powder puff race at the track.
The late model feature saw Cody Schultz lead Jerry Timchak into the first turn, and set the pace for the first four laps. Leon Peasley moved into the top spot on lap five, and held of the efforts of Bobby Stokes the rest of the distance. Stokes tried every possible way around the leader, but Peasley was not about to be denied his first ever win. Stokes was second with Schultz, Eric Moore and John Brady completing the top five. Heat wins went to Peasley and George Fultz.
Bobby Roos led the opening lap of the small block modified feature, with Mike Butterworth a close second. As the field completed the second lap, Scott Smith was in the lead, and held off first Roos and then Butterworth to get his first victory in two years. Butterworth was second, with Roos, Mike Stine and Jimmy Holden completing the top five. Heat wins went to George Sankey and Smith.
For the second week in a row, it looked as if street stock driver Pat Carfley could be headed for a career first win, as he led the opening six laps of the feature, with some pressure from Dan Smeal, but working lap seven, Carfley broke, giving the lead to Smeal. John Weaver worked his way into second and began to pressure Smeal. While the front two were battling, Daryl Whetstone was headed to the front from last, after a caution at the start. When the checkered flag fell, it was Smeal winning, with Weaver, Whetstone, Trent Ogden and Duane Kirk completing the top five. Heat wins went to Kirk, Smeal and Kip Charles.
The four-cylinder feature saw Mark Hummel take the lead at the start, and set the pace for six laps, before Cecilia Olson worked her way into the lead, and never looked back. Derek Rodkey came from last to finish second, with Levi Ardery also coming from the back and finishing third. Dan Steis and Eric Lucas completed the top five. Heat wins went to Ardery and Rodkey.
Bernie Whetstone and Jeff Peffer led the pure stocks to the start, with Whetstone taking the lead and holding the top spot for four laps, before Harvey Wallbanger took the lead on lap five. He set the pace until lap 11, when Gary Little moved to the inside from 13th and took the victory. Wallbanger was second, with Kevin Clark from 14th to third, John Hummel was fourth and Jason Bainey was fifth. He wins went to Little and Bainey.
Tammy Graham led the first three laps of the powder puff race, before Becky Wallace took the lead on lap four, but Graham battled back, and took the win, with Graham second and Mandi Heichel making a charge into third. Lulu LaRec and Janelle Bainey completed the top five. Bonnie Mathews, Jen Bailey and Bev Howell completed the run down.
GRP LAST DEALS: 76 teams filled the pits, including: 14 late models, 17 modifieds, 20 street stocks, 11 four cylinders and 14 pure stocks…This week ends the 2002 season with the Hub-City Qualifier. The late models will go 35 laps for $2002 to win. The winner will receive a guaranteed starting spot in Hagerstown, Maryland on Sept. 20-21. The street stocks will be competing for $350 to win. The modifieds and pure stocks will also see action. Gates open at 4:30 with racing beginning at 6:30.
