SCHAFFER, STOUDT, AND BASHORE WIN SEASON ENDING EVENTS AT
GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
Bechtelsville, PA, September 19. 1998 . . . The season finale show of stock
car racing at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night had Rick Schaffer winning
his fourth modified feature of the season, Randy Stoudt got his fourth late
model feature win and Todd Bashore won the PA sportsman feature race.
With 28 "open competition" 358 modifieds going to the starting line Rick
Schaffer got the jump on the field and put his Philadelphia Inquirer sponsored
modified in front of the pack. Young Kevin Hirthler gave Schaffer "fits" in
the early laps but had a engine go sour in the C&C Ford entry with just 10
laps completed. With Hirthler out Jon Kellner, Keith Hoffman and Sam Schoenly
made a race for the front following Schaffer.
Schoenly had his Hardee's sponsored mount virtually flying and offered
Schaffer a strong challenge for a few laps as did Keith Hoffman. The final 10
laps of the 30-lap feature for open competition 358 modifieds saw Schaffer
have a relatively easy time of it earning $2,200 for his winning efforts and
claiming his 42 career feature win at the one-third-mile, clay banked
Grandview Speedway oval. Schaffer (Woxall) is now just three wins away from
equaling the career win mark held by his close friend Fred Rahmer who has 45.
Second spot in the modified feature went to Keith Hoffman (Allentown) followed
by Chip Slocum (Ewing Township, NJ), Sam Schoenly (Boyertown) and Jon Kellner
(Lansdale).
In the 20-lap feature for late model stock cars Jeff Teets put his Harry's U
Pull-It Auto Parts entry in front of the pack at the drop of the green. Randy
Stoudt gave chase and with just about one third of the laps completed Teets
and Stoudt made it three abreast in turn three with a slower car. Teets
(Coplay) ended up in the wall and Stoudt was able to grab the top spot.
Once in front Randy Stoudt at the wheel of the Hutt's Glass mount (Pottstown)
had an easy time of it holding off former champion Dean Stoudt (East
Greenville) in the chase for the victory. At the finish Randy (no relation)
has a comfortable lead over Dean at the checkered flag. Third spot went to Ed
Hoffman (Allentown) followed by Terry Snyder (Green Lane) and Rick Todorow
(Quakertown).
It was Todd Bashore in the Wenger's Farm Machinery entry (Bethel) grabbing the
lead in the 20-lap PA. Sportsman feature early and holding off strong
challenges from Kenny Gilmore (Kutztown) to grab the season closing victory.
Tom Brennan was able to hold on to finish third in the accident marred feature
race. Larry Lippincott earned fourth and Jimmy Reppert was fifth.
Qualifying heat races for the open competition 358 modifieds went to Rick
Schaffer, Kevin Hirthler, Jon Kellner and Dennis Bailey. The consolation races
were won by Doug Manmiller and Doug Pannepacker.
In the late model preliminaries wins went to Jeff Teets and Ed Hoffman. Bobby
Yeager, Todd Bashore and Dave Dissinger won the PA Sportsman heat races.
The 1999 season will get the green flag with a "free-to-the-public" practice
session on Saturday, March 27 with a noon starting time. The chase for the
lucrative point championships at Grandview Speedway will get started at 5 p.m.
on Saturday, April 3, 1999. Opening day of the new season will include
modifieds, late models and PA sportsman.
Champions, top point race finishers and special award winners will be honored
at the annual Grandview Speedway Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 21, 6
