HOFFMAN AND PAUCH AT MODIFIED WINNERS AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Two of the most successful drivers in East Windsor Speedway history, Doug Hoffman and Billy Pauch, proved again Friday night that they are at the top of their games by taking victories in Twin 20 lap main events for dirt track Modified stock cars.

In the first 20-lapper, veteran Fritz Epright of Whitehouse Station was the star most of the way as he led the pack of 24 racecars. Late in the race the battle for the top spot began to boil, however, as Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa. and Hoffman began to apply pressure. For several laps Epright and Brightbill struggled, while Hoffman watched in third.

Finally, with just two laps remaining, Allentown, Pa.'s Hoffman found the fast groove on the half-mile clay oval and drove around the battling duo to take the win. Epright held on for a strong second, while Brightbill was third. Bruce Hooper of Milford was fourth and Jimmy Horton of Somerville was fifth.

By avoiding several tangles that forced early race cautions, Frenchtown's Pauch was able to rocket to the lead early and continue on to victory. Things did tighten up with a late race caution that put Brightbill right on Pauch's rear bumper. Although Brightbill posted a strong attack, Pauch was able to hold him off for the win, while Tad Cox of Dylestown, Pa., Stockton's Ryan Kerr and Darren McCaughey of Oldwick wrapped up the top five.

Dom Buffalino, Jr. of South River grabbed the lead from Lowell Snyder of Upper Black Eddy, Pa. on the sixth lap and went on to win the 20-lapper for the Sportsman racers. Mike Lyons of Hightstown was a fast closing second, while Snyder ended up third. Joey Tinnes of Bradley Gardens and G.R. Smith of Folsom were fourth and fifth.

A tight pack of cars was at the head of the field when the checker flag waved on the Street Stock main, but Paul Marra, Jr. of Bordentown was able to keep his fenders out front to take the win over Phil Retter of Easton, Pa. and Jackson's Rob Ormsbee. Kenny Hammond of Old Bridge and Rob Melton of Columbus were fourth and fifth.

Friday night racing continues weekly at the East Windsor Speedway with the first green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. This Friday evening, June 28, the 360 Sprint Cars join the Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock racers in a huge four division racing card.
