BILLY PAUCH IS MODIFIED WINNER AT

EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Billy Pauch of Frenchtown bolted on the big wing on Friday night and used it to him propel him to an impressive victory in the 25-lap "Run What Ya Brung" Modified main event at the East Windsor Speedway. It was the third win of the year for the popular racer, and the 117th of his career at the half-mile clay oval.

Pauch lined up 16th on the 22-car grid and immediately blasted toward the front while Bruce Hooper of Milford led the first 10 laps. Pauch then took command on a restart and stretched his advantage the rest of the way. Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. also came from deep in the field to finish second, while Ryan Kerr of Stockton was third. Tad Cox of Doylestown, Pa. and Neshanic Station's Fred Dmuchowski completed the top five. Dmuchowski recovered from pit stops to change two flat tires.

The 360 Sprint cars made their Friday night debut, with 15 cars and exciting racing making the experiment a success. The experience was especially rewarding for Jeff Busby, who took the win over early leader Brett Romano. Mike Higgenbottom, Joe Zuczek and Tim Houge completed the top five in the 20-lap main. Speedway officials have already announced that the 360 Sprint Cars will return this Friday evening.

The final half of the 20-lapper for the Sportsman cars offered thrilling competition with Rick Holsten of Dayton and Richie Pratt, Jr. of Hurffville swapping the top spot countless times. The outcome was in doubt right to the finish, but Holsten beat his foe to the finish line by a matter of inches for the win. Paul Marra, Sr. of Bordentown, Rich Stinson of North Branch and defending champ Art Liedl, Jr. of Flemington were third through fifth.

Defending Street Stock champion Al Cheney III of Cranbury notched win number four of the season in the 15-lap main event, after grabbing the lead on lap 11. Pat Freiberger of Allentown, Rob Ormsbee of Wall and Jake Roveda of Cream Ridge, who were contenders most of the way, were second through fourth, while Frank Dorry of Ringoes was fifth.

Friday night racing continues weekly at the East Windsor Speedway with the first green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. This Friday evening, July 5, the 360 Sprint Cars return to join the Modified, Sportsman and Street Stock racers in a huge four division racing card.
