Tremont Outperforms Rest Of Mods At Lebanon Valley

Harper Gets Career First In Sportsman

SATURDAY MAY 5, 2001

WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont Jr won his third feature of the season at

Lebanon Valley Saturday night. Frank Harper piloted his sportsman car to

victory lane for the first time in his career. Robbie Speed was victorious in

the 20-lap Pro Stock main event. Madsen Overhead Doors, Bilinski and Boomers

Performance sponsored the great night of racing.

Maynard Forrette and Chris Moore led the modifieds down to the start of

the 30-lap feature. Forrette led the first two laps before Moore took the top

spot on lap three. The caution flew frequently during the feature, including

four times on lap five. Tremont moved up quickly from his 14th to sit seventh

by the second lap five caution. Tremont moved around Moore for the lead on

lap six and never looked back. Rich Ricci did a great job of missing the

ten-car pileup on lap five and was up to fourth by lap seven. A scary moment

happened on lap eight when John Lutes, John Tucker and Hollis Morrisey

crashed on the frontstretch. The red flag was brought out to clean up the

incident, fortunately all the drivers were okay. By the halfway point Ricci

had moved into the runner-up position with Moore, Tim Dwyer and Ronnie

Johnson rounding out the top five.

Donnie Corellis went pitside on lap 18. Steve Poirier made the long trip

down from Canada to compete at the Valley Saturday night. Poirier ran well in

his heat race and won the Dash for Cash sponsored by Madsen Overhead Doors.

During the feature he had a good run going and looked like he might get a top

five finish. A bounce off the backstretch wall slowed his momentum and

relegated him to an eighth place finish. Several restarts in the late stages

gave Ricci a chance at Tremont but Tremont pulled away on every restart.

Tremont was able to cruise home for his third victory of the season.

The modified drivers could have taken pointers from the sportsman

drivers. The 20-lap sportsman feature went green to checker with no caution

flags. Phil Arnold led the early portion of the event but got passed by Frank

Harper just before the halfway point. K.C. Goewey night almost ended early as

he almost hit the frontstretch wall on lap one. Goewey rebounded nicely after

losing many positions to get back up to fifth by lap 12. Goewey continued his

march toward the front and moved into the second position with two laps to

go. It was too little too late however as Harper had opened up a full

straightaway lead and took the checkered flag first. It was the first career

victory for Harper in his four seasons at Lebanon Valley. Danny Watson

finished third, Roy Bridge fourth and Sparky Lowe rounded out the top five.

Rob Yetman took the lead from Steve Brownell on lap nine of the 20-lap

Pro Stock feature. Yetman was the class of the field on this night and took

the victory easily. The most serious incident of the evening came on lap 14

when second through seventh piled up in turn four. Danny Sanchez spun out on

lap two of the race but recovered nicely to finish fourth.

The winner in the Pure Stock "A" feature was Ray Hall Jr. Peter Wiegand

won the Pure Stock "B" feature and John Denue won the Pure Stock "C" feature.

Buddy Hencke won the rookie feature for the fourth straight week and has

earned the right to move up to the pro stock division.
