ANOTHER FIRST AT LEBANON VALLEY - TREMONT, RICCI AND JOHNSON FINISH 1-2-3

IN MOD AND 358 MOD MAINS, COLLINS COPS SPORTSMAN WIN

JUNE 10, 2000

WEST LEBANON, NY-It was a hot spring night that greeted the near capacity crowd to a great night of racing action. Pro Circuit Autosports and Restoration and Wohrles Meat Products brought us all the great dirt track action. Kenny Tremont took home the victory in both the modified and 358-modified features. Art Collins won the sportsman main and Ricky Duzlak was victorious in the street stock feature. Chris Crews picked up the three-peat in the IMCA modified division. Another first at the Valley as the top three finishers in both the modifieds and 358-modifieds were identical.

Chris Kokosa and Mike King led the modifieds down to the start of the 30-lap modified feature. Kokosa would lead lap one. Dave Leckonby made a spectacular move on lap two as he needled his way between Rob Pitcher and Matt Quinn. Ronnie Johnson and Chris Moore both looked strong early in the event. They sat second and third respectively on lap two. Donnie Corellis got involved in a jingle in his heat race and bend up the front end of his car, he started the feature last and pulled in on lap seven. Kenny Tremont was steadily making his way to the front and was all the way up to fifth by lap eight.

Kokosa had a commanding lead and began to encounter the slower lapped traffic by lap eleven. There was some great side by side racing throughout the top ten. Kokosa saw his big lead evaporate as the caution flag came out on lap eleven. Tremont used the restart to move up into third. Leckonby made a pass on Maynard Forrette for fourth on lap 12. The second caution flag on the race came out on lap 14 when Tim Dwyer got spun around in turn four.

The field would go double file for the last time on the lap 14 restart. Tremont made the move around Johnson for second on the restart. As the race hit the halfway point Moore made the pass on Leckonby for fourth. Tremont began to stalk Kokosa and made the pass for the lead on lap 19. Rich Ricci was looking for his second top five of the night as he took over fourth on lap 19. Dickie Larkin had a good run in the feature after starting last. He made his way steadily through the pack and was up to eighth by the end of the race.

Ricci made the pass for second on lap 26 but could not run down Tremont and had to settle for his second runner-up finish of the night. Johnson came home third with Moore fourth and Kokosa rounded out the top five. Tremont took home his fourth modified of the season and his 85 career modified victory at the Valley.

Luke Badaracco led the first five laps of the 20-lap sportsman feature. Trouble on lap three as Paul Gilardi spun in turn four on lap three. Current point leader, George Marcus could not avoid the spun car and made hard contact. Lorne Browe and Stan Jablonka were also caught up in the melee. Frank Harper had a good top ten run come to an abrupt end as he got spun on lap six. Sparky Lowe was sent to the rear for his involvement in the incident. John Alberti powered his way into the lead on the restart. Lowe dropped from the event on lap seven.

Art Collins could smell victory as he took second on lap seven. Jeff Carr made the move from the IMCA modified division this season and had one of his best runs of the season going. He was up to third by lap eight and would finish the event a very strong fourth. The caution flag flew on lap 10 as Charlie Humes came to a stop on the frontstretch. Lorne Browe continued a frustrating night as his right rear tire exploded under yellow. Harper also had a night to forget as he got parked in the backstretch wall before the restart.

Marcus was recovering nicely from his early race woes and was back up to seventh by lap eleven. Badaracco would drop from the event after leading the first laps of the feature on lap 12. The fans were on their feet in the final stages of the race as the battle for fourth heated up. Carr, Bobby Knipe and K.C. Goewey ran door to door without anyone giving an inch. Marcus did not want to be left out of the fray and joined the battle for by lap 16. Collins was the class of the field and cruised home for his second victory of the year, Goewey came home second with Alberti third, Carr fourth and Knipe fifth

The race fans were treated to an added attraction Saturday night as the 358-modifieds were on hand for their second race of the season. The move of the race came on a lap two restart as Kenny Tremont rocketed from tenth to fourth. The field was slowed again on lap six for the stopped car of Lee Niznik. The restart would see Tremont take over second in turn one and passed Rick Mill for the lead going into turn three. Rich Ricci Jr. cracked the top five for the first time on lap seven. Ronnie Johnson made the pass for second on lap eight.

While Tremont checked out on the lead there was some fantastic racing behind him. Todd Wilkinson ran away with his heat race and was quick in the feature, he was up to the fourth position by lap 15. Ricci made the move on Mill for second on lap 15. Hector Stratton made the pass around Mill for fifth on lap 17. No one could touch the front running Tremont as he took home his second 358-modified feature in a row. Ricci finished second for the second time as well, Johnson came home third, Wilkinson fourth and Stratton fifth.

Ed Bachand took the lead from Kirk Stanaway on lap one of the 20-lap street stock feature. Ricky Duzlak looked potent early on taking over second in the running order on lap three. Problems for Robbie Speed ended his chances of winning as he came to a stop on the frontstretch on lap seven. The stalled car of Speed brought out the first caution of the race. The restart was the deciding factor in the event as Duzlak and Bachand went door handle to door handle. Duzlak was able to muscle his way into first by the time they reached turn three. Some great side by side racing action in the top five as you could have thrown a blanket over the cars.

Near disaster for the top two as Duzlak and Bachand came together on the backstretch. Both did a masterful job of driving by not crashing and neither lost their position in the running order. The caution came out for Don Ely as he sat idle in turn two on lap nine. The top five shuffled drastically on the restart as Jim Lagenback failed to fire on the restart. In the scramble to avoid the slowing Lagenback Bobby Duzlak sheared off most of the left front sheet metal on his racer. He was black-flagged because the sheet metal was in danger of falling off.

Dave Kokindo looked strong hanging out in the top five for the first half of the feature. He began to set his sights on the front and took over second on lap twelve. Bachand would hold off a late race challenge by Al Blackburn but could not hold of Rob Yetman and had to relinquish third. Duzlak ran away from the field and took home his second victory of the season. Kokindo had his strongest run of the year in second with Yetman third, Bachand fourth and Blackburn fifth.
