TREMONTS BATTING OVER .500 TAKES ELEVETH AT VALLEY

AUGUST 29, 1998

WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont continued his assault on Lebanon Valley's

victory lane Saturday night. Tremont scored his eleventh win of the season

in the 30-lap modified feature. Art Collins was the victor in the 20-lap

sportsman feature. John Routhier picked up the 20-lap street stock main

and Steve Hough won the 15-lap IMCA modified event. Sheldon Oil was the

nights sponsor.

Maynard Forrette was the early race leader in the 30-lap modified

main. Tremont was on the charge early; his was up to fifth by lap four.

Tremont had started the race in 14th position. Chris Moore had a fast car

early taking over second on lap six. Moore would take the lead away from

Forrette right before the caution flag flew on lap nine. Tremont would

grab second on the second lap nine restart. Eddie Marshall was also fast

early in the feature; he was third by lap 10.

Last weeks winner, Todd Wilkinson was fourth by lap eleven and

Brett Hearn was up to eighth on the same lap. Moore and Tremont would

begin to pull away from the field by lap 13. Tremont was all over the rear

bumper of Moore's car, but could not get around Moore. That would end on

lap 20 when Moore suddenly slowed on the frontstretch, giving Tremont the

lead. Motor difficulties would bring the good run for Moore to an end.

That also allowed Marshall to move up to second and Wilkinson to third.

Hearn had worked up to the sixth position by lap 20.

Tremont would run away from the field once he got the lead. He

opened a full straightaway on Marshall by the end of the race. Hearn, Dave

Leckonby and Donnie Corellis would race hard for the fifth spot late in

the feature. Tremont continued his domination at the Valley by bringing

home the eleventh win of the season. A good run for Marshall in second.

Wilkinson ended up third, Forrette fourth and Corellis fifth.

Art Collins padded his point lead in the sportsman division by

winning the 20-lap feature. Collins took the lead from Jay Casey on lap

nine. Mike Boomhower had led the first five laps of the race but was

forced pitside with mechanical woes giving the lead to Casey; Chris Kokosa

has had a strong second half of the season at the Valley. He got to second

by lap 15, but could not make a serious challenge for the lead

George Marcus had moved up to fourth by lap 15, but almost spun

out the next lap. He saved the car from spinning but would lose several

spots. Marcus would eventually recover to finish fifth. In the end Collins

picked up the victory with Kokosa second. Casey finished a sportsman

career best in third and Dave Sanchez was fourth.

The street stocks continue to put on a great show week in and week

out. This week was no exception. Ray Hall led the first portion of the

20-lap feature. John Routhier would grab the lead from him on lap seven.

Todd Goldstein dropped out on lap ten. Lorne Browe worked his way up to

third by lap eight. Routhier was very strong on the front with some great

action right behind.

Outside invader, Jimmy Lagenback had an excellent homecoming at

the Valley. He patiently passed cars throughout the feature and found

himself second by lap 14. Lagenback would challenge Routhier several times

in the final stages but could not make the pass. A caution with two laps

to go gave Lagenback one final bid at the win, but Routhier held off the

attack and took home the victory. Lagenback finished a strong second, Adam

Haas was third, Dave Kokindo fourth and Hall finished fifth.

The IMCA modified had a tough time getting started with several

cautions flying before one lap was completed. After the dust settled Steve

Hough would have the lead. Hough would lead the remaining ten laps for the

win. Paul LaRochelle challenged Hough several times but had to settle for

second. Craig Simmons would round out the top three.

Next week is the final night of points for the modifieds and the

sportsman. All divisions will be in action. Race time is 6:30. Pepsi-Cola

will be the nights sponsor.
