MODIFIED WIN #10 XTRA SPECIAL FOR TREMONT

AUGUST 15, 1998

WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont took home the win in the 30-lap modified

feature Saturday night at Lebanon Valley. Chris Kokosa won the 20-lap

sportsman main. Lorne Browe was the street stock feature winner and Phil

Balmer won the IMCA modified 15-lap feature.

Steve Devine took the lead at the start of the modified feature.

The yellow flag flew immediately on lap one for Chris Kokosa. John Hewitt

went pitside during the caution, but returned without losing a lap. Guy

Sheldon would take second from Dickie Larkin on the restart and Sheldon

would move into the lead on lap two. Kenny Tremont was on the charge early;

he was up to sixth by lap three. Rich Ricci Jr and Brett Hearn started at

the rear of the modified feature. Both drivers had been penalized for

jumping the start in their heat race. Ricci was up to 13th and Hearn 15 by

lap four. Devine, Eddie Marshall and Tremont would go three wide for third

place on lap five. Marshall would come away with the third position.

Dave Leckonby would move passed Jody Tornabene for eighth on lap

six. Sheldon would begin to encounter lapped traffic by lap eight. Leckonby

would move up to sixth on lap 12. Tremont would take third on the same lap

and take second on lap 13. Tremont would take the lead from Sheldon on lap

14. Mike Benson would drop out on lap 15 with mechanical difficulties.

Donnie Corellis took seventh on lap 16 and J.R. Heffner took eighth on the

same lap. Steve Devine's night would end on lap 18.

Leckonby grabbed fifth on lap 19. Tremont would open a full

straightaway advantage over second by lap 22. Todd Wilkinson and Ricci

raced for eighth on lap 24, with Ricci taking the position. Tremont had a

half-track lead when the caution flew on lap 26. Corellis ducked under

Leckonby on the restart, but could not make the pass. Hearn and Chris Moore

tangled on lap 27 bringing out the caution; both drivers were able to

continue. Ricci would take sixth from Corellis with two laps remaining in

the race. Tremont held on through one more caution on lap 29 to take home

his tenth victory of the season at Lebanon Valley. Sheldon had his best run

of the season coming home second. Dickie Larkin was third, Marshall fourth

and Leckonby fifth.

Bobby Hackel took the lead from John Alberti on the second lap of

the 20-lap sportsman feature. Chris Kokosa was up to third by lap three.

Bobby Chalmers would grab third on an early race restart. Kokosa would

challenge Hackel for the lead on lap six. Yellow flag fever would hit in

the mid-portion of the event. Drivers in the top five kept swapping spots

as a result of some many restarts. Hawley Smith was up to third by lap

nine. George Marcus would challenge Hackel for second on lap ten. Marcus

would grab second on lap 12 and set his sights on Kokosa.

The top two cars would pull away from the field in the final stages

of the event. Ron Blake moved into sixth on the final lap of the event.

Kokosa would take the victory, Marcus was second, Hackel third, Smith

fourth and Blake would grab fifth at the end.

Lorne Browe led from green to checkered in the 20-lap street stock

feature. Several serious incidents slowed the event. The first caution flag

flew on lap four. Involved in the incident were Robbie Speed, Bill Deak and

Todd Goldstein, only Speed was able to continue. Rookie driver, Ricky

Duzlak, had his night end on the restart. Bob Duzlak would move up to

second early in the feature. Danny Sanchez was up to sixth by lap six.

Trouble was brewing in the middle of the pack as they went four wide down

the backstretch. Contact was made going into turn four and Dave Striebel

hit the wall. Scott Goversten was sent to the rear for his role in the

incident. Henry Tanner would grab third and Sanchez took fourth on the

restart.

Rob Yetman would be out of contention on lap eight with a flat

right front tire. Tanner would move up to second on lap eleven. Tanner

would make contact with a slower car and hit the turn four wall a ton. Bob

Duzlak and Larry Turner were also involved. Sanchez would drop out on the

restart giving second to Adam Haas. Speed would take third from John

Routhier in the late stages on the event.

Haas would only challenge Browe once in the final lap, but could

not make the pass stick. Browe would cruise home for his first win of the

1998 season. Haas was second, Speed third, Routhier fourth and Goversten

recovered for fifth.

Phil Balmer led every lap of the IMCA modified feature. Karl Hacker

would challenge for the lead in the early stages of the 15-lap feature.

Chris Crews would drop out on lap seven. Kevin Buff would explode a power

plant on lap 10. His car would explode into a fireball, but he was able to

get out unharmed. Rajczi would take second on the restart and Paul

LaRochelle took third. LaRochelle would break on lap 14; Hacker would catch

LaRochelle's right front and hit the wall hard. Hacker was able to walk

away from the incident. Palmer would hold off Rajczi in the final stages

and take home his first win of the season. Anthony Markou would come home

third.
