TREMONT WINS EIGHTH ON HIS SPONSORS NIGHT

AUGUST 1, 1998

WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont picked up the victory in the 30-lap modified

feature on his sponsor Emerick Associates night, Saturday night at Lebanon

Valley. It was Tremont's eighth win of the season at the track. Art Collins

was the winner in the 20-lap sportsman main. Rob Yetman won his first ever

street stock feature. Don Denue took top honors in the IMCA modified feature.

Rich Ricci Sr. led most of the 30-lap modified main event. The

55-year old veteran looked strong on the front of the field. Gary Waters and

Donnie Corellis raced for second on lap two. Tremont would begin his charge

to the front early; he was ninth by lap four. Ricci Sr would encounter lapped

traffic by lap six as he had a 30 car lead over the second place car of Garry

Waters. Steve Devine and Todd Wilkinson would battle for fourth on lap seven.

Wilkinson would take the fourth spot on the next lap.

Ricci Sr. would see his big lead begin to slip away by lap eleven,

as Waters closed back in. Meanwhile Brett Hearn was still trying to break in

to the top ten. Hearn was battling Chris Moore for eleventh on lap 14.

Tremont would take the fifth position as the field took the crossed flags for

halfway. Waters moved right up on the back bumper of Ricci Sr. by lap 16.

J.R. Heffner raced Jason Goff for seventh on lap 17. Guy Sheldon narrowly

avoided disaster on lap 19. He brushed the wall after making contact with

another car. Sheldon did lose several positions in the incident.

Tremont would reel in the top four cars by lap 19. The only caution

of the feature flew on lap 20. Several of the cars in the top ten were in the

incident including Steve Devine and Jason Goff. Tremont would take off like

a rocket on the restart; he was up to second by lap 22. Tremont caught the

veteran Ricci and the two waged a great battle for the lead. Ricci Sr. did

everything he could to keep Tremont from getting around him. Tremont finally

made the pass stick on lap 24 and cruised home to win number eight on the

season. Ricci Sr. had a phenomenal run in second, Donnie Corellis was third,

Todd Wilkinson fourth and John Hewitt rounded out the top five.

Mike Boomhower took the lead on the drop of the green in the 20-lap

sportsman event. Boomhower looked very strong in the early portion of the

race. K.C. Goewey had another strong run slip away. He was running second

when mechanical difficulties sidelined him on lap 13. While Boomhower had a

strong lead on the front the big guns were coming from the back. Art Collins

was up to fifth by lap nine. Bob Hackel and George Marcus sat eighth and

ninth respectively on lap 11. The first yellow flag appeared on lap 13 as

Ron Blake went spinning in turn two.

Boomhower lost his big lead as a result of the caution. Tony Ferrieao

would grab the lead on a lap 15 restart. Collins would take second on a lap

16 restart and Marcus took third. Ferrieao and Collins would race for the

lead in the final three laps on the event. Collins took the lead on the final

lap going into turn one and brought home the victory. Ferrieao took second,

Marcus third, Boomhower fourth and Hackel fifth.

Ed Bachand was the early race leader in the 20-lap street stock

feature. Ray Hall would try to take the lead away from Bachand on lap two.

Victor Hopkins and Adam Haas would race for third on lap eight. Hopkins would

hold the fourth spot and would hold off Bob Duzlak on lap 12. The top three

would breakaway from the pack on lap 15. The race would begin to heat up in

the late stages of the event. The top six cars were all battling for the win.

Hall would take the lead on lap 16. Duzlak would grab second and Scott

Goversten took third.

The final lap would see the top three cars crash in turn four. All

the cars scrambled to avoid the spinning cars. The seventh place car of Rob

Yetman wound up inheriting the lead as a result and took home the checkered

flag. Dave Striebel was second, Haas third, Goversten fourth and Danny

Sanchez rounded out the top five.

The 15-lap IMCA modified main was a race of attrition, only seven

cars finished the event. The yellow flew three times on lap four. The second

time the yellow flew was for the top three cars coming together in turn one.

Don Denue would inherit the lead and took home the victory. He was followed

by Rich Colesanti, Paul LaRochelle, Bill Lander and Chris Crews.

There were big wheel races for the kids on Saturday night as well.

The winner in the four-year old age group was Dylan Fachini from North Adams,

Mass. Stephen Schneider won the five-year-old race from Germantown. Ryan

Heath won the 6-7 year old race from Huntington Mass.
