HEARN HAULS IN WIN #3 ON SEASON
WEST LEBANON, NY- Brett Hearn, from Sussex, NJ, took home the win in the 30-lap modified feature on Saturday night. George Marcus won the 20-lap sportsman main. John Routhier picked up the Street Stock feature.
Jody Tornabene led the field down for the start of the modified feature. John Hewitt got spun in turn three on the first lap, but avoided the wall and continued on. Donnie Corellis would grab the lead on the restart as Rich Ricci Jr. took second. Brett Hearn would race J.R. Heffner for seventh on lap two. Hearn would move up to sixth on the next lap. Kenny Tremont was beginning his charge forward by lap four he was up to eighth.
Guy Sheldon took fourth from Tornabene and Hearn grabbed fifth on lap five. Tremont moved up to sixth on lap six. The yellow flag flew for the second time on lap seven for a right rear flat on Tornabene's car. Hearn would take third on the restart and challenge Ricci for second by lap nine. Tremont would see his hopes at victory diminish as his left rear tire went flat on lap nine. Tremont's crew made the tire change quickly and Tremont joined the field at the rear.
Dave Leckonby had a good run going early. He started last in the feature after changing the rearend in his race car and was up to 11th by lap nine. Maynard Forrette and Eddie Marshall battled for eighth on lap 11. Hearn would again try and challenge Ricci for the second spot on lap 12. The two race side by side for several laps, with Ricci maintaining the position. Todd Wilkinson would suffer mechanical woes and drop out on lap 13. Dickie Larkin tried to get passed Hearn for third on lap 14.
Meanwhile, Tremont began to work his way back up through the pack and was 13th by lap 15. Corellis, Ricci, and Hearn would pull away from the rest of the field by lap 17. Ricci and Hearn would continue their battle for second on lap 19. The yellow flew on lap 22 for the #55 of Mike King. Tremont would move up to eighth on the restart. Hearn would finally get around Ricci on lap 22. The yellow flew on lap 22 for the #78m of Maynard Forrette. Corellis would breakaway on the front as Hearn set his sights on first.
Tremont grabbed fifth on lap 26 as Hearn ran down Corellis. Hearn would catch Corellis by lap 28 and take the lead for good on the same lap. Tremont would battle larkin for fourth in the final stages but could not get around Larkin. Corellis finished second, Ricci third, Larkin fourth, and Tremont fifth.
Joe Bennett led the field down to the start of the 20-lap sportsman feature. Bennett lost the handle and spun in front of the field in turn one. Many cars got caught up in the incident including last week's winner Bobby Hackel. Chris Kokosa suffered heavy damage and was finished for the night. Dave McFetters took the lead on the restart and George Marcus took second. Jason Tompkins and Carmon Carnibucci raced for third on lap two. Marcus would grab the lead on lap two. The yellow flew on lap four.
Bobby Chalmers moved up to second on the restart. Tony Laporta took third on lap five. Bobby Hackel involved in the first turn crash was up to eighth by lap six. Collins moved up to fifth by lap eight. Marcus was pulling away from the field as the reached halfway. Collins on the charge taking third from Laporta by lap 12. Laporte would take the spot right back the next lap. Marcus would encounter heavy traffic by lap 18, but was far enough ahead to easily cruise home with the victory. Chalmers took home second and the guaranteed starting spot at Syracuse for the 4th of July event. Laporta finished third, with Collins fourth and Hackel rounding out the top five.
Rich Hall was the early race leader in the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Todd Goldstein moved up to fourth by lap one. John Routhier would grab the second spot on a lap three restart. Routhier caught Hall on lap five and made the pass for the lead on lap six. Dave Kokindo slowed the field on lap eight for a turn four flip, he was okay.
Dave Striebel would take second on the restart. Goldstein and Lorne Browe would race for fourth on lap nine. Goldstein and Hall would race for third on lap 12. Adam Haas was up to fifth by lap 13. Goldstein would grab third on lap 14. Haas and Hall went side by side for fourth on lap 15. Routhier would encounter lapped traffic on lap 17.
No one could catch the front running Routhier as he took the checkered flag first. Striebel took home second and Goldstein third. Henry Tanner took home the fourth place and Lorne Browe finished fifth.
Anthony Markou took the win in the 20-lap IMCA modified feature.
