TREMONT MAKES IT THREE WINS, MARK KINSER WINS SPRINTS
WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont won his third victory of the season on
Monday night, during the 30-lap modified feature. Mark Kinser took home the
25-lap Pennzoil World of Outlaw feature.
Mike Benson was scheduled to start on the pole for the 30-lap
modified feature, but a mechanical problem forced him out before the start
of the race. Donnie Corellis and Jody Tornabene led the field down for the
start of the race. Tornabene grabbed the early race lead as the pack went
four wide for seventh. Dave Leckonby and Maynard Forrette battled for sixth
on lap four. The top four would breakaway from the rest of the field by lap
six.
Corellis took the lead from Tornabene on lap eight and Todd
Wilkinson grabbed second. John Hewitt and Brett Hearn raced for seventh on
lap eleven. Hearn, Hewitt, and Tremont went three wide for the seventh spot
on lap 12. Hearn and Hewitt made contact and Hewitt caught the outside wall.
Guy Sheldon was also involved in the incident and he was the only one that
was finished on that lap. On the restart Hearn hit the wall in turn one.
Something had broken from the early incident, which caused Hearn to hit the
fence.
Tremont would take third on the restart. As the field came down for
halfway Tremont battled for second with Wilkinson. Back in the pack,
Tornabene, Forrette, and Chris Moore would race for ninth. Tremont would
grab second on lap 17. He would run down the front running Corellis on lap
18 and make the pass for the lead on lap 19. The top four would run single
file as they began to pull away from the rest of the pack. Corellis would
have a right rear tire go flat on lap 22 and smack the turn one wall. This
would move Wilkinson up to second place.
Tremont would pull away from the rest of the filed and was never
seriously challenged. Good racing for third, fourth, and fifth in the final
stages of the feature. Eddie Marshall tried to grab third from Dave
Leckonby in the final laps, but could not to it. Donnie Ackner and Chris
Moore raced for sixth in the final lap with Moore taking sixth at the
finish. Tremont crossed the line a full straightaway ahead of Wilkinson,
Larkin, Leckonby, and Marshall.
Mark Kinser took home his fifth A-main win of the season in the
25-lap World of Outlaw feature. He took the lead at the drop of the green
and was never seriously challenged. Steve Kinser would grab second in the
early going of the race. Jac Haudenschild was an early retiree on lap four.
Haudenschild flipped his primary car in time trials. Mark Kinser would
encounter traffic by lap five. Sammy Swindell and Steve Kinser raced for
the second spot on lap ten. Sammy Swindell passed Kinser for second on that
same lap. The leaders would hit lapped traffic again by lap 11. The most
serious incident of the feature came on lap 15 as Dion Hindi flipped in
turn four. He was not injured in the flip.
Kevin Gobrecht would brush the outside wall on the restart and
brought out the yellow. Danny Lasoski and Stevie Smith Jr. traded fifth
several times between laps 17 and 20. Smith would take fourth on lap 18.
Jeff Swindell had a right rear tire go down on lap 20 and spun down the
frontstretch. Andy Hillenburg would hit break and hit the frontstretch wall
on the next lap. Mark was never seriously challenged for the lead and took
home the checkered flag. Sammy Swindell was second and Steve Kinser was
third. Stevie Smith finished fourth and Danny Lasoski finished fifth.
