MOORE AND HEARN TEAM UP TO WIN MODIFIED MAINS
WEST LEBANON, NY- A full evening of racing was held on a cool spring night
at Lebanon Valley. Chris Moore picked up the win in the first modified
feature that was held over from last week. Brett Hearn picked up the
feature win in the nitecap main. Robbie Speed was victorious for the
second week in a row in the street stocks.
The first modified feature started where it had abruptly ended last
week on lap six. Dickie Larkin led the field down for the green as Kenny
Tremont took the second position. Chris Moore would race Todd Wilkinson for
the fifth spot on lap eight. Moore would take the fifth position by lap
nine. Larkin and Tremont would start to pull away from the rest of the
field by lap ten. A restart on lap 13 allowed Donnie Corellis to take the
third spot. The running order at halfway was Larkin, Tremont, Corellis,
Donnie Ackner, and Moore.
Tremont would put pressure on Larkin going into turn two on lap 15.
The two cars would make contact going into turn three crashing both cars
out of the event. Corellis inherited the lead after the incident in turn
three. Rich Ricci would move up into the top five just after halfway. he
grabbed the fourth spot on lap 17. A restart on lap 17 allowed Moore to
take second and Ricci to grab third. Moore would grab first after a lap 18
restart with Ricci taking second. Hearn would take fifth on the same
restart. Moore and Ricci would pull away for the remainder of the race and
would race for the lead the final two laps. moore would be able to hold off
Ricci and claim his first win of the season. Corellis would finish third,
Ackner fourth, and Brett Hearn fifth.
The second modified feature started off with a big wreck on the
start in turn one. Glenn Grossjung got spun around while in fourth and
several cars got caught up in the melee. Dickie Larkin suffered a right
rear flat during the mishap and went pitside to change it. J.R. Hefner led
the field down for the restart. Donnie Corellis would take second and Brett
Hearn shot into third. Meanwhile they would go three wide for the fourth
spot. Moore would take the sixth on lap two. Hearn would take the lead on a
lap four restart with Heffner second and Corellis third. Corellis would
take second on lap five as Hearn opened up a twenty car lead. Eddie
Marshall and Moore would race side by side for fifth on lap nine.
Rich Ricci was moving up through the field quickly after going to
the rear at the start. Ricci was up to eighth by lap ten. Marshall would
take fourth on lap 11. Hearn continued to dominate on the front as they
reached the halfway point. Ricci would continue toward the front taking the
fifth spot on lap 16. Marshall and Ricci would battle for fourth on lap 20.
Hearn would begin to encounter lapped traffic by the 21st circuit. He would
easily get around the traffic and cruise home for his first win of 1998.
Hearn was followed across the line by Corellis, Heffner, Ricci, and
Marshall.
Ray Hall led the field down to the start for the 20-lap street
stock feature The would go three wide for third on lap two. Danny Sanchez
was running second and Adam Haas was third early in the going. John
Routhier was on the move early taking seventh on lap four. Hall would start
to run away by lap five. Adam Haas took the second spot on a lap seven
restart. Ed Bachand would grab third on the same restart, but would drop
out several laps later.
Lorne Browe would inherit the third spot when Bachand dropped out,
Todd Goldstein would take sixth on lap eleven. Last week’s winner Robbie
Speed would move up to sixth by lap 14. Danny Sanchez would drop out on lap
16. Robbie Speed would take fifth on lap 17. Todd Goldstein would hit the
wall on lap 18 and be finished for the evening. The restart would see the
second place car of Adam Haas not fire. that allowed Browe to take second
and set his sights on Hall. Speed would grab third on lap 18 as Hall
drifted high in turn three. This allowed Browe and Speed to scoot around
Hall. Browe would hold the lead very briefly on lap 19. Something on his
car broke on the final lap going into turn one on the final lap. This
allowed Speed to take the top spot for the second week in a row.
