BRIAN MCDONALD SCORES 358 MODIFIED VICTORY AT FROGTOWN
Hogansburg, NY - Brian McDonald of Cornwall, Ontario finally found his way to victory lane at Frogtown International Speedway by winning the St. Lawrence Center/Burning Sky Office Products 25 Lap 358 Modified feature last Saturday night.
Mark Smoke and Francis McNeil started on the pole of the event with McNeil getting the early lead. Kevin Fetterly, who started 3rd quickly took the lead away from McNeil on lap #6 and looked like he may be headed for his first feature win of the season. Back in the pack Billy Cook, Mark Hitchcock, Dave Heaslip and Mike Perrotte were working their way up through the pack as well as Brian McDonald who had worked his way up through to 6th after 10 laps from his 12th starting position.
McDonald worked his way up to second quickly and began to work on Fetterly for the #1 spot finally grabbing the lead on lap #16. Fetterly fought to get the lead back but met with disaster as his motor let go in the #2 turn putting him out of the race and bringing out the caution.
This put Mark Hitchcock, Dave Heaslip, Mike Perrotte and Doug Fuller within striking distance of McDonald with only 9 laps to go. But Brian had everything going his way and pulled away on the restart for the victory. Mark Hitchcock held on for second as Dave Heaslip was able to get by Mike Perrotte for third with Perrotte and Doug Fuller rounding out the top five.
In the Pro Stock feature, Mark Therrien of Alexandria, Ontario cruised to his third win of the season at Frogtown. Mitchell Jock started on the pole of the event with Scott Kocher along side. Jock grabbed the early lead only to have to head to the pits on lap #5 with problems giving Therrien the lead.
Louie Jackson worked his way up to second from his 4th starting spot and set his sights on Therrien for the #1 spot. But Therrien was just to fast for everyone and cruised home by half a track over the second place car of Louie Jackson. Scott Kocher held on for third with Casey Swamp and Jason Gabriel rounding out the top five.
In the Semi Pro division, Steve Brand picked up his second win of the season at the speedway. Melvin Rush and Brand started on the front row with Brand grabbing the lead right from the drop of the green flag. But unlike the two previous class winners, Brand had his hands full every step of the way fighting off continued challenges from Jeff Marshall, Pete Backus and Greg Snyder. Marshall who had spun out earlier in the race did an incredible job working his way back up through after having to start in the rear after his spin. Marshall tried everything he could to get by Brand who started to have engine problems late in the race but Brand hung tough and went on for the win. Jeff Marshall had to settle for second with Pete Backus, Greg Snyder and Jamie Martin rounding out the top five.
In the Bandit division, Curtis McPhee coninuted his winning ways by fending off his good friend and arch rival Chris Tremblay for the win. At the drop of the green, Chris Rabideau grabbed the early lead only to have Kevin Fetterly, Jr. take the lead away from Rabideau on lap #4. It took McPhee only four laps to work his way up from his 15th starting position to grab the lead and then weave his way through traffic to go on for the win. Chris Tremblay finished second with Kevin Fetterly, Jr. hanging on for third. Peter Cenname and Chuck VanWinden rounded out the top five.
In the Enduro class, Ricky Thompson got by Ryan Phillips early in the race and had to survive a number of spins and accidents in front of him to win the Enduro class feature. Ryan Phillips finished second with Mark David finishing third.
