FROGTOWN HONORS GO TO DAVE HEASLIP, BILLY "THE KID" KING, KEVIN FETTERLY AND DAVE RADBOURNE
Hogansburg, NY - Dave Heaslip took top honors in the 358 Modified division at Frogtown International Speedway but not before the program from the week before had been completed.
The Semi-Pro class picked up there feature in lap #8 from 7/1/00 and it was Marty Jock of Akwesasne holding off a determined Duane Brainard for the win. Tim Allen, Pete Backus and Dick Planty rounded out the top five.
In the Bandit feature from 7/1/00, it was Mark Radbourne keeping Chris Tremblay at bay to win the rained out feature. Tremblay finished second with Brian Loeb, Tammy Jalbert and Eric Smirles rounding out the top five.
In the Moser's Custom Trim Shop 25 for the Modifieds, Dave Heaslip of Smith Falls, Ontario finally got what he needed to stay in the hunt for the point championship as he cam home a big winner.
Twenty-four cars started the event with Craig Ormsby and Mike Reyelle starting on the pole.
Brian McDonald who seemed to have everything going his way especially after picked up a win in the heat grabbed the lead on lap five and started to pull away. Dave Heaslip and Sandy Roberts were in a battle for second with Jim Ryan running 4th waiting for Heaslip or Roberts to make a mistake.
Back in the pack, points leader Mike Perrotte and last weeks winner Pierre Dagenais were having there own battle but in the process were moving through the field quickly as well.
Back in the front, Brian McDonald and Dave Heaslip hooked up for one of the years best racing battles with Heaslip grabbing the lead on lap #17 and staying there for good. Brian McDonald finished a strong second with Jim Ryan making a great showing for himself finishing third with Pierre Dagenais and points leader Mike Perrotte rounding out the top five.
In the DIRT Pro Stock division, Billy "the Kid" King held off a late race charge from Cantley, Quebec's Eric Gauvreau to win the Moser's Custom Trim 20 for the Pro Stocks.
During the race when there was a caution King took the time to find a place to cool off his tires and try to keep the edge on Eric. But Eric using a lot of tire management along with Jody Swamp made a race of it from lap 15 on. King picked up his first feature of the seasons with Eric Gauvreau finishing second. Jody Swamp, Brent Moulton and Denis Gauvreau rounded out the top five.
In the regular show feature go for the Semi Pro's, it was Kevin Fetterly of Massena, New York driving Mitch Printup's #10 car coming home with the win. Kevin who had a miserable night in the 358 Modified division was determined to have a fun night of racing and brought home the win. Being the good sport that he is he knew that dropping back in class in the middle of the season was wrong and conceded the win to a driver who could really use it, Pete Backus who finished his best race of the season in second, Mark Smoke, Jamie Martin and "The Ageless Wonder" John Brainard rounded out the top five. This was the Summer Championship for the Semi Pro class.
In the Bandit Moser's Custom Trim Summer Championship, Mark Radbourne came right back and took the night cap and had a tough time of it with Curtis McPhee. Chris Tremblay in the other Johnson's Antiques entry finished third with Autodrome Edleweiss regular Francis Rivest getting fourth and Roch Aubin rounding out the top five.
In the popular Enduro class, Stacy Boots kept his car from getting into trouble and drove home with the win. Ryan Phillips, Owen White, Timmy Herne and Leon Delormier rounded out the top five.
Next week it will be Lavignes Auto Sales and Truck Repair and Jock's Family Hair Care Night at the speedway with a powder puff derby and the highlight of the evening being the 50 lap summer championship for the Modifieds.
