PIERRE DAGENAIS AND ERIC GAUVREAU TAKE FROGTOWN
INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY CHECKERS
Hogansburg, NY - Pierre Dagenais took advantage of a strange situation to bring home his first feature win at Frogtown this season. Pierre becomes the 6th different 358 Modified feature winner in as many weeks.
Mike Reyelle of Plattsburg, NY took the early lead and lead for several laps before mechanical problems forced him to go to the pits.
Dave Heaslip took over the lead on lap 6 and battled with points leader Mike Perrotte and Sandy Roberts who was having the best run he has had this season including a win in the qualifying heat.
On lap 11, Dave Heaslip and Sandy Roberts came together in turn two and the field slowed to give Dave a chance to get the car back in shape again. Dagenais saw the cars in front of him slow quickly and pulled out and around the cars and grabbed the lead.
Dagenais survived two more restarts and held of a hard charging Mike Perrotte and Mark Hitchcock who came up through the pack with one thing in mind, to get his second feature win at Frogtown.
Dagenais came home with the win, with a very consistent Mike Perrotte who continues to get top 5 finishes every week to keep that point lead in tact finishing second, Mark Hitchcock finished 3rd with Greg Monica making the come back run of the night finishing 4th and Leon Gonyo who has had many top 10 finishes finally able to break into the top 5 for 5th.
In the DIRT Pro Stock 25 lap Summer Championship, Eric Gauvreau of Cantley, Quebec started on the pole and fought off one of the most competitive fields of Pro Stocks anywhere on the circuit for the win.
Billy "the Kid" King tried everything he could to get by Eric for the lead but just could not find an opening and finished second. Mitchell Jock, Mark Therrien and Denis Gauvreau rounded out the top five.
The Semi Pro feature began only to have the caution came out for poor track conditions after a light shower came through.
The management decided to get the fireworks display in, in hopes that it would stop raining and the track would be able to be run in after the fireworks.
The cars came back out, ran in the track and lined up only to have the rain come again so that show was called.
Next week the Semi Pro feature will be completed along with double features for the 4 cylinder cars.
Special thanks go out to two great sponsors, Greg's Auto Salvage and TLC Cafe who were fully involved with the program and showed everyone what fun it can be to be a night sponsor. Hats off to both of you.
Next week another fine sponsor returns to the speedway. Moser's Custom Trim Shop in Massena, NY plans to have some fabulous prizes to give away. Moser's has been a big supporter of racing for many years in the area.
