Pauch Rocks To Number Four At New Egypt

New Egypt, NJ (June 8) - It was Frenchtown, NJ's Billy Pauch, rockin' and

rollin' to his fourth of the year in the Modified class on Gem Marketing

Be-Bop Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway.

"The track was too good, there were a lot of good running cars out there

tonight. I didn't know how far ahead we were," Pauch said, after

outdistancing his rivals by more than 3 seconds to score his 45th career

victory on the New Egypt clay. "Hey, we work hard, I drive hard, the fans

cheer hard. That's what makes it happen."

Pauch forged forward from his far-back starting spot to show ninth a third

of the way into the 30-lap main event. A strong-running Sam Martz managed to

give Pauch a real tussle for the lead until finally handing over the reins

on lap 17. Even tightly bunched traffic didn't deter Pauch from that point

on, and he danced in for win #4. Frank Cozze claimed the runnerup berth,

with Tim Tanner Jr. pushing a back-up small-block car from a consi starting

spot to a strong third. Darren McCaughey and Sam Martz, on his sponsor's

night, completed the top five.

Matt Papiez of Belle Mead, NJ, became the eighth different winner in the

eight Sportsman races run this year, inheriting the lead after Mike Lyons

broke with four laps remaining. Tommy Beamer, Jack Swain, Rich Scagliotta

and Tom Tomasko followed Papiez to the line.

Somerset, NJ's Mario Page dominated the non-stop Super Stock event, charging

from 16th to the lead by lap 7 and then holding off Ralph Gargiulo the rest

of the 15-lap run for his third win of the season. Bryan Reed, Brian Nixon

and Pat Conaway finished third through fifth.

The Herman's Trucking Lightning Lap Awards for fastest lap in a feature

event were won by Billy Pauch (Mods, 18.357), Tommy Beamer (Sportsman,

19.663) and Mario Page (Super Stock, 19.860).

On a theme night of '50s nostalgia, the Garden State Vintage Stock Cars were

on display and on the track for an exhibition match. An Elvis appearance,

hula-hoop and twist contests, and great giveaways from Gem Marketing

highlighted the evening.

Next week, it's Dad's Appreciation Night at New Egypt Speedway, sponsored by

Cream Ridge Golf Club and AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants. In addition to a full

card of big-block Modifieds, Sportsman and Super Stocks, dads of drivers

will compete in three Senior Masters Challenge events. Gates open at 3:30

pm, with first race at 5:45. Adult admission is $14, children 7-12 are $4,

and kids 6 and under are free. For more information, call the speedway

office at (609) 758-1900.
