DePALMA WINS CAREER FIRST BIG BLOCK FEATURE
Middletown, NY: Taking the lead from his outside pole starting position, Mike DePalma of Goshen, NY would not be caught in the Collier Motor Car Co. 30 lap big block feature Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway. DePalma fended off the late race challenges by new point leader Frank Jashembowski to record his first big block win here. Rich Eurich, Ray Jashembowski and Steve Dodd completed the top five. DePalma became the 8th winner in 8 races in the division this season.
Point leader Jeff Heotzler and defending champion Chuck McKee both suffered multiple flat tires and finished well off the pace. Their bad luck opened the door for Frankie J. who stepped right through to move to the front of the division.
The 20 lap Ralph Davis Welding DIRT Sportsman main went to Mike Kolka of Middletown, NY when race leader Stan Jablonka broke with one lap remaining. Rich Coons, Joe Morel, point leader Joe Dunay, and Mike Walter trailed. Kolka was the 7th different winner in 7 races held in 2003.
In the Expert Pro Stocks, Eric Marin from Carmel, NY claimed his second 20 lap feature of the season. the Rookie division saw first year driver Jim Hajkowski of Patterson, NY win for the second time in 3 races.
Ray Tarantino, Jr. of Pleasant Valley, NY won for the first time this season in the Pure Stock division.
The next event on the calendar are the Monster Trucks who invade the speedway on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night this week as the 163rd Orange County Fair opens. Racing returns Saturday night with a regular program of Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks. Racing begins at the 6:30 pm.
