NEW CAR WINS FOR HINDLEY: HEOTZLER REGAINS POINT LEAD
Middletown, NY: Tim Hindley of Monticello, NY debuted a brand new car from the Sherlock Racing Team and promptly put it in victory lane Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway. The defending 358 modified champion started the 30 lap Liberty Environmental Management feature in 12th spot but was clearly the fastest car on the speedway. Hindley took the lead on lap 17 and went on to become the 9th different driver to win a big block feature here this season. It was Hindley's 4th career big block win.
Coming from 20th starting position to finish 2nd was Jeff Heotzler who regained the point lead by 27 points. Frank Jashembowski, who led the chase for one week, was off the pace while defending champion Chuck McKee finished 10th. Chris Shultz, in his best run of the season, was 3rd in front of Craig Mitchell and Jerry Higbie.
Defending DIRT Sportsman champion Stan Jablonka of Poughqauag, NY became the first open wheel repeat winner after claiming the New York City PBA 20 lap event. Jablonka, who lost last week's feature in the latter stages due to a broken rear end, took command on lap 9 and was in control the rest of the way. Brett Ford, last weeks winner Mike Kolka, Brian Ford and Tom Perrego completed the top five.
Eric Marin of Carmel, NY won the Expert Pro Stock feature for the 2nd straight week. After running here off and on for nearly 20 years, Roger Oubina of Shrub Oak, NY won his first Rookie Pro Stock feature.
Tony Garaguso of Bloomingburg, NY won his first ever Pure Stock feature.
Mid week racing returns this Wednesday night as the DIRT Sportsman are featured in a East Region Mr. DIRT Tour event of 30 laps. They will be joined by another event in the 48 State Synthetic Lube & Filter Pure Stock Summer Series, a 50 lap enduro and The Botanical Day Spa Ladies Enduro. A regular program of Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks returns next Saturday night. Racing on both nights begains at 6:30 pm.
