TIM HINDLEY OUTRUNS HEOTZLER AT ORANGE COUNTY
Middletown, NY: Tim Hindley of Monticello, NY held off a fast closing Jeff Heotzler to win the Middletown Pontiac/Buick/GMC 30 lap feature event at the Orange County Fair Speedway Saturday night. Running his brothers Teo/Pro car, Hindley chased pace setter Scott Goodrich through most of the event, catching him in turn four on lap 26. Heotzler, who started 19th, entered the top five on lap 15 and took 2nd with three laps remaining. He didn't have enough time to challenge Hindley who ran home for his 3rd career big block win here.
The Firestone Tire 20 lap DIRT Sportsman feature was claimed by Joe Dunay of Vernon, NJ. It was his 2nd career win as he led opening night winner Jimmy Johnson to the checkered flag. In a post race inspection, he was found to have had an illegal carburetor. Under DIRT rules, Dunay was allowed to keep the win, but was disqualified from any track points or prize money. Defending champion Mark Hufcut, David Van Horn, and former champion Stan Jablonka completed the top five.
The Expert Pro Stocks ran their first feature of the season. Kevin Ward of Hyde Park, NY won for the 6th time in his career at Orange County taking the 14 lap main event. Bob Waters, Jr. of Stony Point, NY made it two in a row in the rookie division taking his 5th career win over the 12 lap distance. The Pure Stock main of 12 laps was taken by opening night winner Ron Irvin of Hyde Park, NY.
This Saturday night finds the only appearance of the sprint cars at the track this season as URC makes their annual stop. They will join the Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks and pure Stocks in a program that begins at 6:30 PM.
