JASHEMBOWSKI NETS 1ST IN 5 YEARS
Middletown, NY: Frank Jashembowski of Middletown, NY reached victory lane Saturday night for the first time in nearly 5 years at the Orange County Fair Speedway. Jashembowski, who started second, held off the challenges of 2nd finishing Tommy Meier over the 30 lap distance of the Budweiser feature. It was the 9th career feature win for Frankie J. breaking a 5 way tie for 31st place on the all time win list. Current point leader Jeff Heotzler came from 19th to finish 3rd. Butch Riddle and pole sitter Donnie Elliott completed the top five.
Making their annual stop, the URC sprints saw Bill Brian, Jr. of Ephrata, Pa. win for the first time at Orange County. It looked as if former winner here, Greg Coverdale would take the checkered in the 25 lap WRRV Radio event, but he spun to avoid a lapped car in turn one on lap 12 and finished 19th. Dave Gable, Matt Gerber, Jeremy Trout and Jim Martin were next across the line. Brian took over the point lead from Trevor Lewis after 4 events in the 34 event URC season.
The Rookie Pro Stocks saw Russ Schroth of Sparta, NJ win for the first time in his career taking the 12 lap feature. The 12 lap Pure Stock feature saw Charles Smith of Greenville, NY stop current point leader Ron Irvin and take his 4th career win. Because of the Midnight curfew, the DIRT Sportsman and Expert Pro Stock features were held over until this week. Racing will begin at 6 pm instead of 6:30 pm to accommodate the two feature events which will be run first. The pit gate will open at 2:30. Saturday finds a full card of Modifieds, 358 modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Pure stocks in action.
