PAINE, CHILSON, MATHEWS, MILLS, LAWSON AND KURTZ WIN AT BLACK ROCK

DUNDEE,N.Y.....Steve Paine returned to victory lane in the 358 Modifieds last

Friday night at the Black Rock Speedway on Southern Tier NAPA night. Kevin

Chilson picked up his second win of the week in the PPG Super-Stocks, while

Dan Mathews won his first feature in the Regional Pro-Truck division. In 4

Cyl. Stock racing, Eddie Mills won the first feature and Donnie Lawson won the

second. Joey Kurtz grabbed his third win of the season in the Black Rock

Bandits.

Walt Mitchell grabbed the early lead in the 25 lap Modified feature event

and he was being hotly pursued by Ronnie White and Brian Polamnteer. White

took the lead on a lap 4 re-start, with Mitchell and Bryon Turner in tow.

Mitchell and Turner then hooked up in a torrid battle for the lead. On lap 11

Turner took the lead, and began to pull away. At the half way point, it was

Turner was out in front, he was followed by Mitchell, Ron White, Tim Sebring,

and Brian Polmanteer. By lap 15 Steve Paine had worked his way up to 4th

place. He moved up to third on lap 16, and began to challenge Walt Mitchell

for second. On lap 19 Paine moved past Mitchell for second, and set his sights

for Turner. Paine and Turner were racing for the lead, and Paine took over for

good on lap 23 in turn four and went on for another win. Turner held on for

second, third was Charlie Donk, Walt Mitchell was fourth, and Tim Sebring

filled up the top five. Heats were won by, Walt Mitchell, Ron White, and Todd

Henderson.

Kevin Chilson picked up his second win of the season in the Super-Stocks, as

once again, point leader Dale Welty had a flat tire do to an early race

tangle. Welty was able to get the tire changed, and get a top ten finish after

being almost 2 laps down. Rob Conklin was at the top of the field in the early

going, and Carl Cleveland and Dave Machuga were in his shadow. Machuga's race

came to an early end as he had a mechanical problem in turn three on the third

lap. On the re-start, Carl Cleveland had his #22 at the head of the field. The

next yellow flag was waved as Quinn Sutherland, and Sparky Hills tangled in

turn 3&4, Dale Welty was also involved, and this is when he had the flat tire

that put him two laps down. Meanwhile, Kevin Chilson was working he way up

through the field, and took the lead on a lap 10 re-start. Once Chilson was

out in front, he pulled away from the field, and went on to record his second

win in four days at Black Rock. Carl Cleveland had a great run to finish

second. Third was Chris Daugherty, fourth was Mike Carapella, and Bill Morich

rounded out the top five. Heats were won by, Rob Conklin, Quinn Sutherland,

and Dave Machuga.

In the Regional Pro-Truck division, Fred Mathews finally put his patriotic

#9 in victory lane. He took the lead on lap 7 on the back straight, he was

able to hold on for the popular win, but it was no easy task for him. He had

to fight off Tommy Austin Billy Wilson and Fred Buckley. Tight competition

continues in this class as three and sometimes four wide racing was the norm

during this 20 lap event. As the checkers were flying, it was Fred Mathews

across the line first. Tommy Austin was a tight second, third was Billy

Wilson, fourth was Fred Buckley after coming from deep in the field. Eddie

Machuga hung on for a fifth place finish. Heat winners were Eddie Machuga, Don

Putman.

In 4 Cyl. Stock racing action, the "Risingville Rocket", Eddie Mills took

the win in the first of two feature events, Skip Dean had another great run to

finish second, third was Phil Yaw, Jake Clancey fourth, and Jason White filled

out the top five. In the second feature, Donnie Lawson took his first win in

the 4 Cyl. Stock division after a great three way battle with Jack Ayers and

Les Irwin that saw these drivers three wide on the white flag lap! As the

checkers flew, it was Lawson in for the win, Jack Ayers was second, third went

to Les Irwin, fourth was Fred Mathews, and fifth went to Todd Stone. Heats

were won by Eddie Mills, Jack Ayers, and Donnie Lawson.

Joey Kurtz got his third win of the season in the Black Rock Bandits, as he

took the lead with 2 laps to go. Finishing second was Ray Speicher, Steven

Ovens continues his great runs and got third. Fourth was Adam Austin, and

Trevor Sutherland filled out the top five.
