PAINE AND WELTY KEEP ON WINNING AT BLACK ROCK

The "Hurricane", Steve Paine ripped his way through the

Modified field again last Friday night, and pulled down yet another win. Dale

Welty did the same thing in the PPG Super-Stock division. The "Towelsville

Twister", Billy Wilson, picked up his third win of the season in the Regional

Pro-Truck class. In 4 Cyl. Stock racing, Phil Yaw picked up the exciting win

in the Putman Auto Sales 25 lapper, and Willy Grant Jr. picked up another win

in the Black Rock Bandits.

Steve Paine continues his winning ways at the Black Rock Speedway in the 358

Modifieds. In the early stages of the 25 lap feature, it looked like Charlie

Donk was the man to beat as he was hooked up to the outside groove and was on

his way to the front in a hurry, and was in the lead by lap 4. On this

circuit, the first yellow flag was displayed as Tommy Stewart spun in turn one

while Brian Polmanteer did the same in turns 3 and 4. On the ensuing re-start,

there was a pile up on the back straight as Don Lawson got sideways and his

team mate Walt Mitchell plowed into him along with Ron White, Eric VanSkiver,

and Bill Deming. For the next re-start, Donk was leading the field, and he

was followed by Chuck Graham, and Tim Sebring. Paine was already up to sixth

at this point. On the next lap Paine was up to second. Lap 8 saw Chuck Graham

spin in turn 3. On the next re-start, Paine blew by Charlie Donk for the lead,

and the rest, they say, is history. Paine dominated the remainder of the

event, and went on for the win. Donk held on for second, third was Bryon

Turner, rookie Alex Hoag continued his great running with a fourth place

finish, and Ron White filled out the top five. Heats were won by Bryon Turner,

Charlie Donk, and Don Lawson. Curt VanPelt took the Modified B-Main, Ron

White, Stacy Jackson, Todd Henderson, Ray Dann, and Chuck Kennison also

qualified.
