The “Hurricane” Steve Paine got back to his winning ways last Friday night at the Black Rock Speedway, as he picked up his second win of the season in the Modified division. It was no easy task for the veteran driver from Waterloo, as he had to battle with Ronnie White and Tim Sebring throughout th 25 lap event. Danny Johnson made a rare appearance, and everyone anticipated a dog fight between long time rivals Paine and Johnson, but it never materialized as Johnson was knocked out of the event on a lap three incident with Eric VanSkiver and Frank Dunning. The front end of the Sweeteners Plus 27J wsa too badly damaged to continue after the accident. The battle for the early lead saw Tim Burnett and Ron White going wheel to wheel for the number one spot. Lap four saw another yellow flag as Charlie Donk Spun his #99 in turn one, and while that was going on, Tom Stewart, John Moravec, and Todd Henderson got together in turn four. The re-start saw Ron White go to the front and he was closely followed by Burnett. Tim Sebring and Steve Paine.

By lap 10 the top three were running side by side as White, Sebring and Paine pulled away from the rest of the field. Paine pulled into second five laps later, and took over the lead on lap 19 and went on to score his second win of the season. Ron White held on for second, third was Tim Burnett, fourth went to Bill Deming, and Charlie Donk recovered to finish fifth. Heats went to, Burnett, Sebring, and White. Don Lawson was the winner in the Modified B-Main.

In the PPG Super-Stock division. Dale Welty remains unbeaten, as he picked up his forth win of the 2000 season. It looked like he was going to have to settle for second as Dave Fultz held the advantage until lap 19 when Welty caught and passed him on the inside of turn two in heavy traffic. Fultz held on for second at the flag, third was Kevin Chilson, Quinn Sutherland was fourth, and Dave Machuga filled out the top five. Heats were won by, Welty and Fultz.
