TUESDAN NIGHT VICTORIES AT PENN CAN

The 30 lap Modified feature saw John Gurnsey and Steve Babicek pace

the field to the green flag with Babicek grabbing the early lead. The

story of this race would be the misfortune suffered by the second, third

and fourth place drivers in points going into the event as all three

would be eliminated in crashes in the first five laps of the feature.

Alan Rudalavage came into Friday night third in points but his race ended

after only one lap when polesetter John Gurnsey spun and collected

several cars including Rudalavage. Second place man in points George

Kostelansky was also marginally involved in this incident but was able to

rejoin the field after making hasty repairs.

With the final 20 laps of the Modified feature run under the power

of the green flag, Weaver was able to open up a comfortable advantage

over the remainder of the field. Brian would run the remainder of the

way basically unchallenged as his margin of victory was about a quarter

lap over second finishing Mike Clapperton. Clapperton started the race

in twelfth but worked his way steadily forward to take the runner-up

position at the finish. Clapperton's second place finish did net him the

bonus money for being the highest finishing car powered by a DIRT legal

Small Block motor. Modified rookie Jamie Shea turned in a strong run to

finish third ahead of early race leader Steve Babicek and Mike Decker.

Mike Nagel, Mike Colsten, Sean Collins, Brian Franko and Tom McGurrin

finished sixth through tenth respectively.

Dave Jenkins, Tom Rudalavage, and Mike Colsten won the three

Modified heat races run back on Friday night.
