CHRIS WEAVER, SHAWN WALKER, RANDALL PAXTON, TRACY GREGORY AND SHANE WOLF

WIN AT PENN CAN

Chris Weaver became the first Modified drive to win three features

at the Penn Can Speedway as the Conklin, NY native drove to his third win

of the season last Friday night. Sportsman division rookie Shawn Walker

drove to his first ever Sportsman division win while Randall Paxton's

fifth win of the season moved him back into a tie atop the Late Model

division point standings. Tracy Gregory won his fourth Super Stock

feature and current point leader Shane Wolf scored his third Pure Stock

triumph of the season.

The 30 lap Modified feature saw Mike Nagel and Chris Weaver bring

the field down to the green flag. Weaver immediately grabbed the lead at

the drop of the green flag and would go on to lead all 30 laps aboard his

Ken Wilson Chevrolet/ Road Courier Service sponsored #1A. It was a

dominating run for Weaver as he was able to open up a bit of an advantage

over the field, but several times his lead was erased by caution flags.

Each time, Chris was able to once again regain his advantage and raced on

to the checkered flag without facing a serious challenge for the top

spot. Brian Franko turned in his best drive of the 2003 season to finish

a strong second behind Weaver. Alan Rudalavage finished a solid third

ahead of BPG Racing teammates Tom McGurrin and Mike Decker. Mike

Clapperton finished sixth ahead of Bob Trapper. Championship contenders

George Kostelansky and Brian Weaver finished eighth and ninth recovered

from early problems to finish eight and ninth respectively. Kostelansky

was a victim of a flat tire while Weaver had to come from the back after

a mid-race tangle. Chris Shupp rounded out the top ten finishers.

Dave Jenkins, Chris Weaver, and Alan Rudalavage won the three hear

races while Modified rookie Jamie Shea won the consolation event.

In Sportsman division action, teenage Sportsman division rookie

Shawn Walker picked up his first career open wheel victory. Walker, a

mid-season addition to the Penn Can field, dominated the 20 lap event,

grabbing the lead from fellow teenager Brett Tonkin on the first lap and

leading the rest of the way. The two young stars spent the entire 20

laps battling for the top spot as Tonkin pressured Walker all the way but

could not find a way past. Walker held off Tonkin's challenges all the

way to the finish. Current point leader Kevin Bates crossed the line in

third, making it a clean sweep of the top three positions for the under

20 years of age crowd. Mike Loney and rookie Shawn Mills rounded out the

top five finishers. Brian Decker, Chad Cook, Bob Lane, Brandon Buck and

Garth Tonkin Jr. were sixth through tenth respectively.

Mike Loney, Shawn Walker, and Brett Tonkin won the Sportsman

qualifying events.

The 20 lap Late Model feature saw Dalton, Pa.'s Randall Paxton claim

a share of the point lead as his fifth feature win of the season moved

him into a tie with Dave Zona atop the Late Model points after Friday

night's action. The Late Models had a tough time getting their feature

started with several incidents in the opening laps keeping the field

bunched up. Once they got sorted out, Paxton was able to drive past

early leader Steve Tourje to take over to top spot. Once out front,

Paxton showed that he was the class of the field on this night as

defending track champion Allen Coy tried to chase Paxton down over the

closing laps, but Paxton was too strong and took the win by a comfortable

margin over Coy. Dave Zona finished third to hand onto a share of the

point lead while Jason Carman and Steve Tourje completed the top five

finishing order. Brent Dyer, Jim O'Hara, Keith Mudge, Lou Sparks, and

rookie Bud Phillps made up the second half of the top ten.

Jaimie Griffiths and Randall Paxton won the two Late Model

qualifiers.

Super Stock driver Tracy Gregory has certainly had a memorable week.

Fresh off his North South Series win at Thunder Mountain on Wednesday

night, Gregory picked up his second win in less than 48 hours as he drove

to victory in the Super Stock feature. Couple that with his Saturday

wedding, and it has been quite a week for the four time feature winner

from Factoryville, Pa. Wade Decker led the early laps of the feature

before Gregory was able to slip past for the top spot. Decker made every

effort to retake the lead as he challenged Gregory over the closing laps

bout could not find a way past and settled for second. Current point

leader James Cornell protected his point lead with a strong third place

run ahead of Nick Petrilak and Chris Hunsinger. Rookie Chris Strohl

finished sixth ahead of Mike Decker and David Luff, who drove Serafino

Raggi's Pure Stock entry after problems cropped up aboard his own #20.

Jim Hughes and Eric Bonham completed the top ten.

Wade Decker and Chris Strohl were victorious in Super Stock heat

racing.

Shane Wolf picked up his third Pure Stock feature of the season as

he passed Harry Marvin III just prior to the halfway point after the two

spent several laps in a side by side battle. Over the closing stages,

Micheal Lartz tried to lake a run at Wolf, but Shane was not to be denied

as he picked up the win over Lartz. Charlie Gilbert, Keith Wilkins, and

Harry Marvin III rounded out the top five finishers. Finishing sixth

through tenth were Kevin Davies, newcomer Bob "Rhino" Tyriw, Toby Sparks,

Jerry Lobbdell, and Rob Welsh.

Shane Wolf, Harry Marvin III, and Michael Lartz were Pure Stock heat

winners.

Racing continues this Friday night at 7:15 PM with a five star

racing card. The Modifieds, Sportsman, Late Models, Super Stocks and

Pure Stocks will all be in action in a five star racing card. With only

a couple of races left tin the point season, all five division

championships are still up for grabs as the season winds toward a

dramatic climx.

The Penn Can Speedway is located on Pa. Rte 171, about 7 miles East
