HEASLIP GIVES FIELD THE SLIP AT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY
Dave ‘’The Slip’’ Heaslip sure knows his way to the winners circle and seems on his way to a drivers championship at Edelweiss Speedway after scoring his sixth modified feature win of the season before another large crowd Friday night.
The veteran driver from Smiths Falls left from post ten at the starting line and only gave himself ten laps to take the lead of the 13 car field and it was a done deal from then on in the 30 lapper. Brian ‘’Slim’’ McDonald of Cornwall was runner up while Alexandria ’s Laurent Ladouceur was third. Rookie Eric Gauvreau who led the first ten laps finally crossed the finish stripe in fourth place while veteran Pierre ‘’The Snake’’ Dagenais rounded out the fast five. Last week’s winner, sophomore Lee Ladouceur had to retire to pit lane in the early part of the feature due to mechanical problems. Dan Jalbert and Laurent Ladouceur won the qualifying heats.
Alexandria ’s Marc Therrien scored his second feature win of the season after finishing on top of Aylmer ’s Michel Dupuis and Mathieu Beaudoin in second and third spot respectively. Last week’s winner Denis Gauvreau had to settle for fourth best after experiencing a minor mechanical problem while Mont-Laurier’s Alain Coursol rounded out the top five. Coursol, Stephane Lebrun of Gatineau and Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter Ron Morin were the qualifying heat winners.
Michel Robert of Masham won his fifth checkered flag of the season in the eight cylinders over Aaron Day runner up and Denis Hamel in third place. Gatineau ’s Yves Deschatelets and Pembroke’s Glen McKenney rounded out the fast five. Michel Robert and Claude Laurin won the preliminaries.
The four cylinder feature was all Carl Soucy of Gatineau who captured his eighth win of the season and his sixth visit in win lane in his last seven outings. Martin Jacques in hot pursuit all the way through the 12 lapper kept on and crossed the finish line in second place while Wakefield ’s Erin Joyce completed the podium. Martin Vienneau and Ryan Foley rounded out the top five. Soucy and Martin Jacques were the qualifying heat winners.
Dave Heaslip in the modifieds, Denis Gauvreau in the Late Model Pro Stock, Dominic Gauvreau in the eight cylinders and Carl Soucy in the four cylinders are presently leading the drivers standing at the Val des Monts oval.
Action resumes this coming Tuesday night, August 12 at Edelweiss Speedway where a leg of the Castrol Turning Stones Casino Super Dirt, a 100 lapper for modifieds will be featured on top of the regular program. The time trials are scheduled for 6:30 . Doors will open at 6:00.
