COLLECT FEATURE WINS AT RANSOMVILLE

RANSOMVILLE, NY...Friday, August 23rd...Pete Bicknell of St. Catharines, Ontario topped the field in the Mighty Taco Modified feature event with a move to the inside of rookie Jason Boyle as they took the white. Bicknell increased his points lead over Danny Johnson with his fourth win of the season aboard his Bicknell Racing Products chassis.

Boyle grabbed the early lead followed by Rick Hoctor, Greg Panunte, Mark Golding, and Don Spatarico. Boyle led the event through three restarts as he choose the outside lane each time. Defending track champion Danny Johnson suffered drive line problems on lap fourteen and headed pitside. Boyle continued to show the fast way around the track with heavy pressure from Rich Vinson with just ten laps remaining. Panunte, Tim Murdock, and Spatarico rounded out the top five.

The remaining laps found Boyle showing the way with Bicknell on the move. Bicknell picked his way to the front and took over second from Vinson with four to go.Bicknell quickly reeled in Boyle and took to the inside. Bicknell would make the pass and took the win over Boyle, Vinson, Murdock, and Panunte. Heat winners were Golding and Panunte.

Jeff McGinnis took top honors aboard the DIRT Sportsman twenty-five lap feature event. McGinnis took control on lap eighteen from Scott George and pulled away from the remainder of the field enroute to his third win of the season.

Potter took the lead at the start of the feature event followed by Kevin Wills, Dave Just, McGinnis, and Randy Chrysler. John Zimmerman suffered mechanical difficulties and headed pitside on lap five. James Michael Friesen brought out the first caution as he spun on lap nine. Potter continued to show the way with heavy pressure from Wills. Scott George was on the move and took over the second spot as yet another yellow slowed the pace. Potter chose the outside lane for the restart allowing George to line up alongside on the bottom. George took the lead with McGinnis and Friesen in tow. Wills found his great run come to an early end as he lost power on the back stretch.

George maintained the lead on the restart with McGinnis in tow. McGinnis took to the topside on lap eighteen and made the winning pass. McGinnis took the win over George, Friesen, Potter, and Chrysler. Heat winners were Chrysler and Potter. Welcome to Mike Jeffery who came out of retirement and drove the Dave Just back-up car.

Dan Mayer of Lancaster, NY topped the field aboard the Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock feature event to collect his first of the season. Mayer took the lead at the drop of the green and held off Dave Williams and Scott Kerwin in the final stages.

Mayer took the lead from his front row starting position and held it through eleven green flag laps before the event was slowed for the first caution. Jeff Martin suffered apparent mechanical woes as he lost power and ended up in the front stretch moat. Kerwin was on the move as he broke into the top five and quickly advanced his way to third before time ran out. Williams had a great run in second while PeteStefanski and Dan Shoop rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Mayer and Williams. Welcome to Steve Dominski who made his first start of the season.

Dan Baughman of Lockport, NY captured his second win of the season aboard the first Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature event. Baughman took the lead away from Jeremy Wilson on lap four and was never seriously challenged winning by a large margin. Jared Israel, Cory Sawyer, Wayne Close, and Wilson rounded out the top five. Wilson had led laps 1-3. John Dietz had a great run end with motor woes early on. Heat winners were Wilson, Jerry Condren, and Don Barnes. A total of thirty-seven cars were on hand. Welcome Jeremy Martin and Kenny Bryant both out for the first time this season.

The victory in the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature event went to Jerry Condren of Youngstown, NY. Condren took the lead at the drop of the green and held off Kenny Washburn aboard his Stinger chassis/Pogo powered machine enroute to his second win of the season. Kenny Washburn held off persistent challenges from Don Barnes for second while Dave Eaton and Chris Lester rounded out the top five.

Angie Zastrow won the ladies race.

Pitnotes-Ninety-two competitors jammed the pit area and were greeted with great track conditions. Late day clouds ensured a tacky race track giving the crowd plenty of action. Many thanks to Mullane Chevrolet and Claytons Floral Designs for sponsoring last Friday’s events. Coming up next week includes the Labor Day Championships-40 lap Mod., 25 lap Spts., 25 lap Pro., and 20 lap SS. Double points are being awarded in all divisions. Fireworks and a full size demolition derby fill the night.
