358 MODIFIED ROOKIE CHAD BRACHMANN TAKES WIN AT RANSOMVILLE;

GEORGE, MCCOY, SMITH, AND CLOSE ALSO COLLECT CHECKEREDS

RANSOMVILLE, NY…Rookie sensation Chad Brachmann topped the field last Friday night aboard the Mighty Taco 358 Modified feature event at Ransomville Speedway. Brachmann of Wheatfield, NY took the lead at the drop of the green and then held off Danny Johnson and Pete Bicknell in the closing stages to post his first win of the season at Ransomville.

Fellow rookies Mark Golding and Jason Boyle shared the front row for the start of the thirty-lap Mighty Taco Modified event. Brachmann took the lead from his fourth place starting position followed by Tim Murdock, Sam Crogan, Greg Panunte, and Jason Boyle. The top five ran nose to tail until lap 8 when Golding spun bringing out the first caution of the event.

Brachmann was able to maintain the lead on the restart as Johnson broke into the top five. Brachmann pulled out to about a ten car length lead while Johnson advanced to third. Summer Nationals winner Vic Coffey broke into the top five. A three wide battle between Coffey, Panunte, and Bicknell resulted in Coffey spinning in turn four and making hard contact with the guardrail. Unfortunately for Coffey, the damage he sustained relegated him pitside for the night.

Brachmann maintained the top spot on the restart as Johnson advanced to second. Brachmann was running the preferred top groove which forced Johnson to the bottom. As Johnson worked on Brachmann, Bicknell made his presence known and pressured for the second position. Bicknell was able to take over the runner up spot and quickly moved in on Brachmann in the lead. As the final laps clicked away, Brachmann held off Bicknell and collected his first win of the season aboard the head-lining division. Bicknell, Johnson, Murdock, and Panunte rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Boyle and Crogan.

Scott George found himself in the right place at the right time for the second week in a row as he inherited the lead in the twenty-five lap Sportsman event when Stewart Friesen lost a wheel. George then held off a hard-charging Randy Chrysler in the final laps to collect his second win of the season at Ransomville.

PJ Allen took the lead at the drop of the green followed closely by Tony Purgarich, John Hagerman, John Zimmerman, and Robbie Kott. Friesen was on the move early as he broke into the top five on lap two. Lap six found Wayne Conn and Chrysler make slight contact in turn three resulting in Conn spinning and collecting the cars of Jeff McGinnis and Kevin Wills. Both cars were done for the night.

Allen chose the outside lane for the restart and led the field into turn one. Friesen made a great three wide move and took over the number one position with George in tow. Friesen looked to have things well in control until disaster when a tire came off the 10a machine bringing out the caution on lap 10. George inherited the lead as Friesen was taken pitside for a new right front sneaker.

George maintained the top spot on the restart followed by Kott, Hagerman, Adam Ferri, and Chrysler. Chrysler continued his charge to the front as Friesen was battling his way back through the field. As the final laps were completed, Chrysler made a charge to the inside but to no avail as George held on for his second win in as many weeks. Chrysler came home second followed by Kott, Friesen, and Hagerman. Heat winners were Wills and Zimmerman.

In the Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock ranks, Pat McCoy topped the field of twenty for his second win of the season. McCoy took the lead at the drop of the green aboard his John Koeppen owned #08 and then held off persistent challenges from Steve Lewis for the win.

Steve Miller and McCoy shared the front row for the start of the twenty-lap event with McCoy taking the lead over Lewis, Miller, Mike Williams, and John Panattoni. The field top runners ran nose to tail until lap twelve when contact between Panattoni and Dave Schulz resulted in Panattoni spinning. McCoy showed the way the remaining laps and took the win followed by Lewis, Schulz, Scott Kerwin, and Miller. Heat winners were McCoy and Williams.

In the first Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature, Wayne Close took the lead at the drop of the green and led the entire fifteen laps enroute to the win. Joe Rickard, Tim Young, Rick Gorhan, and Kirk Tuttle rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Derek Smith, Chris Lester, and Jeremy Wilson. Daryl Havill and Rick Simmons made their first starts of the season.

Derek Smith took top honors aboard the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature as he too led the entire fifteen laps. After a bad wreck two weeks ago, Smith and his crew had his #13 racer back in action after using a borrowed car the week prior. Roger Israel, Jared Israel, Chris Lester, and Cory Sawyer rounded out the top five.
