DANNY JOHNSON, MARK POTTER, BUTCH ZIMMERMAN, FRED SROCK, AND CORY SAWYER

TAKE VICTORIES AT RANSOMVILLE

Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY took top honors last week aboard the Mighty Taco Modified feature go. The night which was sponsored by the Greater Niagara Newspapers, found a great turn-out in the grandstands as another packed house was on hand for the Rick Rinehart Memorial event.

Luke Carleton showed the way in the early going of the Mighty Taco Modified feature. Four wide action on the backstretch resulted in Mark Golding coming to rest in turn four. The restart found Johnson break into the top five and quickly make his way to the front. Johnson took over the runner up position on lap eight and set his sights on Carleton. Carleton slipped high in turn two and ended up making contact with the guardrail on lap thirteen relinquishing the lead to Johnson. Carleton headed pitside…tough break after running so well up front.

Johnson maintained the lead through a few more restarts with Pete Bicknell running a strong second. Todd Gordon, Chad Brachmann, and Brian Stevens rounded out the top five with five laps remaining. Johnson was able to maintain the top spot through the final circuits and pick up his fifth win of the season. Johnson extended his points lead. Bicknell, Brachmann, Ricky Richner, and Stevens rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Carleton and Greg Panunte.

Mark Potter of Appleton, NY took top honors aboard the DIRT Sportsman twenty-five lap feature go. Potter came from his sixth place starting position to claim the lead on lap two and go on for his first checkered of the season.

Dan Lacey led the DIRT Sportsmanfield to the green and led lap one before the yellow came out. Tony Purgarich suddenly slowed at the front of the pack and ended up collecting Rob Kott and Kevin Wills who simply had no where to go. Mark Potter took the lead on the restart followed by hotshoes Randy Chrysler and Stewart Friesen who broke into the top five. John Hagerman and Dave Just rounded out the top five.

Points leader Scott George slowed on lap nine with a flat right rear and headed to the infield. Chrysler cut the distance between himself and Potter by lap thirteen with Friesen in tow. A caution on lap fifteen bunched up the field with ten laps remaining. The restart found Potter maintain the top spot while Chrysler and Friesen both applied heavy pressure. Potter was able to hold off both for the checkered by a very slim margin. Chrysler, Friesen, Wills, and Jeff McGinnis rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Lacey and Chrysler. Friesen took over the lead aboard the points battle.Welcome to Dave Charczuk who made his first start of the season.

Butch Zimmerman of Burt, NY took the early lead aboard the Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock twenty lap feature go and led the entire distance enroute to his second win of the season at the big “R”. Pete Stefanski of Wheatfield ran a tight second and made a serious bid for the lead on the final go-round but had to settle for second followed by Steve Lewis, Dan Shoop, and Jeff Martin. Heat winners were Zimmerman and Stefanski. Welcome to Mike Martin who recently finished his Pro Stock and began weekly competition.

The first Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature gave the fans their monies worth as the top ten ran in a tight bunch for the entire fifteen circuits. Cory Sawyer collected his fourth victory of the season as he took the lead away from Chris Lester on the final circuit. Lester had led the field through the first fourteen go-rounds and held on for second. Wayne Close, Roger Israel, and Rick Gorhan rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Sawyer, Bobby Clare, and Tim Young. Hats off to Clare who must have spent many late nights in repairing his racer after a wild flip the week prior.

Fred Srock of Newfane, NY took the lead aboard the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature at the drop of the green and went on to win his first of the season. Srock held off persistent challenges from Jerry Condren of Youngstown, NY who came home second. Tim Young, Don Barnes, and Ben Hornquist rounded out the top five. Congrats to Kenny Washburn and his entire crew as they worked valiantly after a heat roll-over to make the necessary repairs and have him ready by feature time.
