VIC COFFEY, DAVE JUST, DAVE SCHULZ, DIGGER LESTER, AND DON BARNES
COLLECTED RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY CHECKEREDS LAST FRIDAY NIGHT
Ransomville, NY ... Ransomville Speedway enjoyed another stellar crowd last Friday night for Koeppen Farms, David Cadillac/Chevrolet, Sports n Leisure, and the US Army night. A total of ninety-eight competitors signed in pitside for the mid-season event and entertained a packed house.
Vic Coffey of Leicester, NY took top honors last Friday night aboard the thirty-lap Mighty Taco Modified feature. It was the second win of the season for Coffey aboard his Sweeteners Plus sponsored Bicknell chassis.
Rookie Mark Golding took the lead at the start of the Mighty Taco 358 Modified feature and led it through lap five. Vic Coffey moved in to challenge Golding on lap five and took the top spot after starting fifth in his Sweeteners Plus machine. Rich Vinson advanced to second followed by Tim Murdock, Golding, and Danny Johnson. Johnson made the pass on Golding for fourth using the inside lane. Up front, Coffey held a half a straight-away lead over Vinson as Johnson closed the distance between himself and Murdock for third. Chad Brachmann broke into the top five on lap fifteen putting Golding back to fourth.
As the laps clicked away caution free, Coffey enjoyed a huge lead as he looked for his second feature win of the season at Ransomville. Battling for sixth was Golding and Pete Bicknell as the rookie gave Mr. Smallblock a run for his money. Bicknell was able to make the pass on Golding as Coffey captured the win as the event went green to checkered in record time. Vinson, Johnson, Murdock, and Brachmann rounded out the top five.
Dave Just took the lead at the drop of the green aboard the twenty-five lap Sportsman feature event followed by Tony Purgarich, Kevin Wills, Jeff McGinnis, and Scott George. Just led the field through lap twelve before the first caution flew for John Hagerman who spun in turn one. Just maintained the lead on the restart as Wills and George advanced to second and third. Just had about a ten car length advantage over Wills, George, and McGinnis. Just continued to pull away from the field as Stewart Friesen broke into the top five on lap seventeen. McGinnis and Friesen battled for fourth as the field took the five to go signal from starter Jipp Ortiz. As the final laps dwindled away, Just continued to dominate and went on for a huge win. Wills, George, Friesen, and McGinnis rounded out the top five. Heat winners were George and Just.
Dave Schulz of Somerset, NY took the lead away from Mike Williams on lap seventeen and maintained the top spot for the win aboard the Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock feature. Schulz, who was piloting the Eric Greenlief owned #12s, enjoyed his second feature win of the season at Ransomville at and currently sits third in the overall points.
Steve Lewis of Ransomville, NY took the lead at the drop of the green aboard the Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock feature. As Lewis led the field through lap two, Jeff Martin took a wild roll-over in turn one. Martin had the right side of his car drop slightly into the moat as he came off turn four. As Martin attempted to come back onto the racing surface and slow him machine, he made hard contact with the turn one guardrail and ended up rolling his racer. Martin didn’t suffer any personal injuries and was even able to return to the racing surface after a trip pitside. The restart found Lewis maintain the top spot with Pete Stefanski running a tight second. Stefanski took to the outside of Lewis to challenge for the top spot but as he did, Lewis’s back end came out on him and tagged Stefanski just enough to send him into the moat. Lewis lost two positions while Stefanski ended up at the rear of the pack. Mike Williams inherited the lead and led the field through lap five before another caution slowed the event.
Mike Williams led the field at the restart with Dave Schulz a tight second. Schulz took a look on the outside of turn three as yet another caution slowed the event. It was a tough night for Pat McCoy aboard his Koeppen Farms owned machine as he suffered a flat left front and headed pitside. Mike Williams continued to show the way followed by Schulz, John Panattoni, Scott Kerwin, and Lewis. Kerwin moved up to third on lap fourteen as Schulz continued to challenge Williams for the lead. Schulz was able to make the pass for the lead and his second win of the season. Williams held off Kerwin by inches for second followed by Lewis, and Panattoni. Martin advanced to sixth place after having rolled over early in the event. Heat winners were Schulz, Williams, and Stefanski.
Digger Lester was awarded his first ever feature win last Friday night after apparent winner John Dietz was dis-qualified in post race inspections. It was probably the most exciting Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature finish of the season as Dietz was involved in a great three car battle with Digger Lester and Tim Young as they came down for the checkered. Dietz was able to hold Lester at bay as they crossed the line. Young, Roger Israel, Cory Sawyer, and John Schultz rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Ben Hornquist, Jared Israel, and Fred Srock.
Don Barnes of Newfane, NY captured his third feature of the season aboard the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature. Barnes took the lead away from Wayne Close on lap five after Close drifted high in turn two. three. Derek Smith and Rick Gorhan certainly made it an exciting feature as they were right there knocking on Barnes door. Smith, Gorhan, Fred Srock, and Close rounded out the top five. A very scarry moment took place when Jeremy Wilson made contact with Bobby Clare on lap three as they came off turn four. Clare ended up spinning in front of the field leaving Webb Nashwinter with no where to go. Nashwinter made contact with Clare sending him into a double roll-over. Clare was a-okay but the same couldn’t be said for his racer as it suffered major damage. During this break in the action, leader Kenny Washburn headed pitside. A tough feature event to say the least...after seven laps...there were only seven cars remaining.
