BICKNELL, MARTIN, MCCOY, NICHOLS, AND ISRAEL CAPTURE FEATURE WINS AT RANSOMVILLE

RANSOMVILLE, NY...Pete Bicknell of St. Catherines, Ont took top honors last Friday night aboard the 30 lap Modified feature event. Sponsored by Gippsters Collision, Bicknell took the lead away from Rich Vinson and held off late race challenges from Vic Coffey for his second win of the season.

Robbie Krull took the early lead followed by Dan Habuda, Vinson, Brian Stevens, and Dan Miller. Vinson took over the second position as the caution flew for Luke Carleton who spun in turn three. The restart found Krull maintain the top spot but only for a short time as he slowed on the back stretch and pulled into the infield. Vinson inherited the lead followed by Stevens, Scott Wood, Pete Bicknell, and Danny Johnson.

Bicknell made his way into the runner up position as Vic Coffey blasted his way into the top three aboard his Sweeteners Plus entry. The top three put on a great show for the fans with Bicknell getting the advantage on lap 18. Bicknell put a lot of distance between himself and Coffey who emerged in second and Johnson who took over third. Lapped traffic would play a part as Coffey and Johnson were able to move in on Bicknell in the final stages. Bicknell held off the challenges of both Coffey and Johnson for his second of the season. Coffey, Johnson, Wood, and Vinson rounded out the top five.

Don Martin of Youngstown, NY captured his second Sportsman feature event of the season aboard the twenty lap event. Martin took the lead away from Kevin Wills around the half way point enroot to the victory.

The caution filled event found the yellow fly some seven times in twenty laps. Dan Lacey took the early lead followed by James Strassburg, John Hagerman, Dave Nashwinter, and Rick Schumacher. A seven car pile-up resulted after Nashwinter spun in turn one. Curt Sherwood, Bob Winters, Scott George, Jim Zimmerman, Dickie Blake, Dave Just, and Wayne McKie were all part of a red flag which would be needed to clear the track.

The restart found Strassburg take over the top spot followed by Lacey, Wills, Hagerman, and Martin. Martin found the quick way around Hagerman and then followed Wills to the front.

Another major wreck slowed the pace as Jeff McGinnis spun on the front stretch. Getting caught up were hot shoes Randy Chrysler and Chad Brachmann who both got turned sideways trying to miss the McGinnis mount. Dave Just was left with no place to go and made hard contact with the Brachmann machine who in turn made hard contact with Chrysler. Both were able to continue but not before losing three laps pitside.

Taking over first and second, Martin and Wills put on a great show for the fans as they battled side by side for the top position. Stewart Friesen moved in to make it a three car battle in the final stages. Martin used the top groove enroute to securing the top spot and then held off challenges by Wills and Friesen who ran nose to tail behind him. At the checkered it was Martin followed by Wills, Friesen, Dean Ferri, and Todd Adamczak. Lacey posted his best finish of the season in sixth.

In Prostock action, Pat McCoy captured his second event of the season aboard the 20 lap Gippsters Collision feature go. McCoy took the lead away from Jeff Martin who had inherited the lead when Joe Ignizio had something break sending him into the turn one guardrail while leading. McCoy withstood many restarts as another caution filled event plagued the night. Driving his Koeppen Farms sponsored entry, McCoy held off challenges from Steve Miller for the win. Miller posted his best finish of the season aboard his Blue Moon Potatoes/Dave Stolzenberg owned 1S in second. Points leader Pete Stefanski finished in third followed by Mark Schulz and Steve Lewis.

The first Streetstock feature event found Sean Kott take the checkered but was later disqualified for refusing tech. The win was awarded to Dave Nichols who scored his first ever feature win at Ransomville. Wayne Close, Joe Rickard, Derek Smith, and Roger Smith rounded out the top five.

In the second Streetstock feature, Justin Israel won his second of the season. Driving his #99 entry, Israel inherited the lead when Don Barnes headed pitside with a flat tire. Following Israel across the line was points leader Steve Buzzard, Alex Morris, Dan Baughman, and Ben Hornquist.

Maria Koeppen took the win aboard the 8 lap Ladies race. Driving the Pat McCoy Prostock entry, Koeppen held off a late race challenge from Joan Zimmerman. Kay Holmes led the early stages.

Congratulations go out to Ransomville regulars Danny Johnson and Fred Srock as they both became daddies of baby boys last week.
