DANNY JOHNSON WINS PHOTO FINISH OVER VIC COFFEY AT RANSOMVILLE
RANSOMVILLE, NY...Danny Johnson continued his winning ways last Friday night at Ransomville Speedway aboard the Johnstons Restaurant 30 lap 358 Modified event. Taking his fourth in five attempts, the only one Johnson wasn't victorious in was went his powerplant expired three weeks back.
Driving his self owned 27J, Johnson came from deep in the pack to take the win over his Sweeteners Plus teammate Vic Coffey. The fans were treated to Johnson style as Danny came from the tail position after a flat tire forced him pitside on lap 6. If that wasn't enough to bring the fans to their feet, the feature finish was as Coffey and Johnson came off turn four for the checkered side by side. In the most exciting feature of the season, Johnson took the win with the right side tires in the moat by a bumper over Coffey.
Pete Bicknell ran a strong third while Todd Burley and Rich Vinson rounded out the top five. Some twenty-four entries competed in qualifying heats with wins going to Vic Coffey, Danny Johnson, and Pete Bicknell. Noteably...the three heat winners were the top three finishers in the feature event. Making their first visits to Ransomville Speedway this season were Boyd MacTavish and John Wood.
The Johnstons Restaurant 20 lap Sportsman event was captured by defending champion Chad Brachmann. Brachmann took the lead away from Wayne McKie on lap 15 and went on to win his second of the season at Ransomville. Brachmann also took back over the points lead.
Randy Chrysler continued his streak of strong finishes with a second place showing last Friday. Don Martin came home in third while McKie faded to fourth with apparent handling problems. Scott George rounded out the top five.
Some twenty-five Sportsman signed in pitside with Scott George, Wayne McKie, and Dean Ferri taking the heat wins. Making their first starts of the season included Rick Schumacher, Todd Adamczak, Joel Rosenbeck, and George Bosse.
The Prostock feature went a lot smoother than the week prior as Pete Stefanski took a dominating win over Cory Sawyer, Joe Stefanski, Jeff Martin, and Dan Shoop. It was Stefanski's second win of the season, his first came back on opening night.
The casualties from the week prior were dually noted as only twenty Prostocks signed in Pitside. Dave Kramp made it back from his horrifying crash from the previous Friday only to suffer mechanical problems and finish deep in the field. Heat winners were Butch Zimmerman and Dan Shoop. Defending champion, Mark Schulz, climbed aboard the Jason Boyle ride for the feature as a broken axle took him out of his heat.
The Street Stock features were won by Jerry Condren and Don Rappleyea. Condren took the checkered in the first of the Twin events over Mark Boyer, Shawn Graham, Randy Zimmerman, and Steve Coleman. It was Condron's second win of the season.
Rappleyea captured his third of the season aboard the second Twin feature go. Dave Nichols, Wayne Close, Ken Washburn, and Steve Buzzard rounded out the top five. Some thirty-four Street Stock entries jammed the pitside with Jerry Condren, Alex Morris, and Dave Nichols taking the heat wins.
Joan Zimmerman won the Ladies Race on June 9th in dominating fashion. Zimmerman is becoming a regular in victory lane as she also captured one of the Ladies events during the 1999 season. Wife of Prostock regular Butch Zimmerman and sister of Sportsman campaigner Kevin Wills, they definitely are a racing family.
