DANNY JOHNSON, SCOTT GEORGE, BUTCH ZIMMERMAN, DAVE WEBSTER, AND MARK BOYER TAKE VICTORIES AT RANSOMVILLE
RANSOMVILLE, NY...Another great crowd was on hand to witness Danny Johnson capture his fifth win in six outings last Friday night at the big R on Bicknell Racing Products night. The Phelps, NY driver took the lead away from Pete Bicknell on lap 14 and quickly distanced himself from the remainder of the field, taking the win by a full straight away ahead of Vic Coffey.
Todd Gordon took the lead at the drop of the green of the 30 lap main but was short lived as Bicknell took the lead away from Gordon on a lap 4 restart. Gordon dropped to second followed by Dan Miller, Scott Wood, and Ricky Richner. Making their way through traffic were Coffey and Johnson as they broke into the top five. Johnson charged his way into second only to find Bicknell with a large lead.
Johnson wasted no time closing the gap between himself and Bicknell. Once he caught Bicknell, Johnson took to the high side as Bicknell ran low. Johnson rim rode his way around Bicknell for the lead on lap 14 and quickly pulled away. Coffey took over the third position and caught Bicknell at the line for second.
Bicknell held on to third followed by Ricky Richner and Dan Miller. Coffey was awarded the 358 Super DIRT Series qualifying spot as Johnson already had one. Heat winners were Richner, Coffey, and Bicknell.
The Sportsman feature event went to Scott George who led from lap 2 through lap 20. A caution with nine to go put defending track champion Chad Brachmann on George’s tail. George was able to hold off Brachmann who was never able to mount a serious challenge.
Brachmann took home second and added to his points lead as double points were awarded for the mid season championship events. Dave Just posted a great finish in third followed by Stewart Friesen and Pete Cosco. Heat winners were Bob Winters, Brachmann, and Pete Cosco.
Butch Zimmerman of Burt, NY captured his first prostock feature win of the season aboard the 20 lap event. Zimmerman took the lead at the drop of the green and led the way until lap 7 when rookie contender Jason Boyle took over the top spot.
Boyle led the way from there with Zimmerman hot on his tail. The two raced nose to tail with fierce competition taking place behind them for third between Steve Lewis, Dan Shoop, and Pete Stefanski. Zimmerman made a bid to the outside of the rookie on lap 17 to regain the lead. Lewis also got by Boyle for second. Boyle came home in third, tying his best finish of the season followed by Joe Stefanski and Jeff Martin. Heat winners were Zimmerman, Eric Greenlief, and Boyle.
The first Street Stock feature was won by Dave Webster. His second of the season, Webster led the entire event and took the win by a large margin over Steve Buzzard. Buzzard emerged the point leader after the double points event by 4 over Ken Washburn. Derek Smith, Dan Baughman, and Don Barnes rounded out the top five.
Mark Boyer captured the second 12 lap Bicknell Racing Products Street Stock feature over Kirk Tuttle. Boyer took the lead away from Tuttle on lap 8. Wayne Close, Don Rappleyea, and Fred Srock rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Webster, Bill Holtz Jr., and Don Barnes.
