Johnson, Blaney, Clay, Mccann And Groves Shine At Sharon

By JIM POLLOCK & MARK POSEY

May 18, 2001 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hartford(OH)..After an hour rain delay the gates opened for the third time

this season at the speedway. Once the program got underway we managed to

outlast mother nature and got the full program of Sprints, V-8 Modifieds,

E-Mods, Stock Cars, Micros and Bike races in without any delay.

Leading the Sunburst Environmental Sprints to the green was Brian

Ellenberger and Jarod Larson, Larson was able to capture the lead and held on

for the first six laps when tenth place starter Jason Johnson past for the

lead on lap seven with Larson recapturing the eight circuit and holding on

for a hotly contested battle until Johnson used lap traffic to go around

Larson on lap twelve for the final time forcing Larson to settle for second.

Bringing home the third the spot was Marty Ling, forth went to Mike Kekich

who was one lap down, as was Gary McCollum who came in fifth. Heat winners:

M. Kekich and J. Johnson.

As the Gibson-Govenor V-8 Modifieds took to the excellent racing surface

the first three laps set the tone for the feature event as Skip Moore led lap

one, Rex King leading for lap two only to break an oil pump belt on lap

seven, and Jim Rasey taking over on lap three and showing the way for the

next sixteen laps when an overheating problem allowed seventh place starter

Lou Blaney to overtake Rasey on turn two of the final lap for his first win

of the season at Sharon. Rasey brought home second with eleventh starter Jim

Weller securing third, Joe Crawford fourth and Steve Young rounding out the

top five. Heats went to J. Weller and R. King

With no moon in sight the Coy Brothers Trucking E-Mods took their feature

to the half hour time limit. With Jeff Johnson taking the green flag for the

initial lap Bob McCann jumped into the lead on the second go round with stiff

challenges from Scott Stiffler and Russ Dunn with Stiffler stealing the lead

for the eleventh lap only to lose out to McCann on lap twelve. After numerous

cautions the half hour time limit expired with the finial caution for Jeff

Rudrick thus ending the feature with McCann capturing his first feature win

at Sharon. Eleventh place starter Scott Jones came in second, third went to

Rich Stiffler, Russ Dunn fourth, and making his first appearance this year

Steve Haefke fifth. Heats going to R. Dunn and B. McCann

The Burghhill Auto Salvage Stock Cars was the battle of the sevens, the 7w

of defending tracking champion Bobby Whitling and the 007 of former track

champion Dwayne Clay. As Whitling led for the first four circuits and Clay

wrestling the lead away for laps five and six, only to have Whitling to steal

it away for lap seven. Clay not to be denied muscled by on lap eight for the

remainder of the fifteen lap event for his second straight win of the season.

Whitling settled for second , Dave Ferringer third, Joe Porter fourth and

bring home the fifth spot was Gary Robinson. Heat winners: D. Ferrringer and

D. Clay

Our guest division for the evening was the Snap-on tools Micro Sprints. As

pole setter Jay Groves took the green he drove straight to the checker,

fending off many challenges from second place finisher J.J. Kapucheck. Third

spot went to Jason Dolick fourth to Tim Graham and topping the fifth spot was

John King. Heats: Kapucheck and Groves
