DANNY JOHNSON, KEVIN WILLS, JOE STEFANSKI, WAYNE CLOSE, AND DEREK SMITH CLAIM EXCITING FEATURE WINS AT RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY
RANSOMVILLE, NY…May 18th, 2001…A late morning monsoon didn't stop Ransomville Speedway from completing their racing program Friday night. It did however make for an extremely fast and racey track surface which provided fans with plenty of side by side racing action through-out the night.
In the Mighty Taco 358 Modified ranks it was Danny Johnson taking the win aboard the 30 lap main event. Johnson of Rochester, NY, piloted his brand new 2001 Troyer chassis to his first checkered of the season at Ransomville. Johnson thanked his dedicated crew and sponsors in victory lane.
After blowing his motor opening night, Burley sat on the pole for the feature go and looked to have things pretty much in hand. Billy Krull ran a strong second through about half way before losing the position to Johnson. The final laps found Johnson pressure Burley on the lowside, getting alongside in turn three. The two made contact bringing the fans to their feet. Johnson took control of the top spot and held off further advances from Burley through-out the remainder of the event. Burley came home in second followed by Krull, Pete Bicknell, and Tim Murdock. Heat winners were Burley and Krull.
The Queenston-Lewiston Duty Free Sportsman 20 lap feature was won by Ransomville native Kevin Wills. Wills took the lead away from Bob Winters just past the half way point and held off defending champion Chad Brachmann in the late stages. Brachmann came home in second followed by Winters who led much of the race.Jeff McGinnis and Don Martin rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Brachmann, Martin, and Rob Kott.
The Napa Prostock 20 lap feature was won by Joe Stefanski of North Tonawanda, NY. Stefanski took the lead away from Steve Lewis who had led since the drop of the green. Lewis held on for a strong second followed by Mike Williams, Jason Boyle, and Jeff Martin. Heat winners were Stefanski, Lewis, and Boyle.
The first Fish's Automotive Streetstock feature was won by Derek Smith. Alex Morris and Mark Boyer rounded out the top three. Wayne Close captured the second Fish's Automotive Streetstock feature as he passed Joe Rickard at the line. Rickard held on for second followed by Jerry Condren. Heat winners were Smith, Rickard, and Digger Lester.
