Colsten, Jordan And Shea Get Thunder Wountain Wins

&= nbsp; Center Lisle, New York - ..Mike Colsten increased his point lead in the Modifieds, Kevin Jordan eeked out win number two of the year in the Sportsman while Jamie Shea got back on the winning track by taking the Street Stock feature last Saturday night at the Thunder Mountain Speedway on Gary s U-Pull It night. Other winners on the card included Steve Hill in the Four Cylinder Modifieds, Steve Klock in the Mini Sprints, Shawn Mills in the Four Cylinder Stocks and Mike Wilbur in the Pure Stocks.

&= nbsp; Sophomore Modified pilot Brian Payne led the first eleven laps of the hotly contested Modified go brefore six decade veteran Carl Nagel took over on lap twelve. Nagel s run at the top was short lived as Colsten who started in tenth, moved into second on lap thirteen and had the top spot two laps later. Once in front Colsten just kept the field behind him and only Rick Wilk got close enough to challenge and that was off a restart on lap seventeen. When the green came out again, Colsten started to pull away from the field as the always-fast Doug Worthing moved into the top three. But that was as close as Worthing would get as Wilk held him off for second as Colsten crossed under the checkers for his fifth win of the year. Rounding out the top five were George Kostelansky and Tom McGurrin.

&= nbsp; By far the most competitive feature event of the night was the twenty-lap Sportsman affair. Kevin Jordan in the Sprint PCS machine moved into the early lead from his third starting spot and started to pull away from the field as Brian Payne was running a strong second. Meanwhile two-time winner Billy Spoonhower was coming through traffic and moved by Payne on lap five. Spoonhower dogged Jordan for a number of laps before getting under on lap twelve. The next six circuits were nip and tuck and Jordan used the high groove and Spoonhower utilized the bottom. Finally Jordan got a major bite on the top side and took over for good with just two to go. Spoonhower made one last run at Jordan on the bottom off turn four on the final circuit but it was to no avail and the rookie open wheel pilot had to settle for second. The front running duo was followed by point leader Don Hart Jr. in third, Payne in fourth and Bob Hamm in=20 fifth.

&= nbsp; Rick Davis was the fastest car early in the twenty-lap Street Stock feature leading the first thirteen circuits and surviving numerous restarts doing so. Just after the race s sixth yellow flag period on lap twelve, point leader, Jamie Shea asserted himself as he got under Davis coming off turn two and took command. Davis stayed in the runner-up spot for four more laps before a fast Ed McKernan got by relegating him to third. Shea, meanwhile was enough in front of the field to avoid any serious challenges by McKernan to get the win with McKernan in for second followed by Davis in third, John Morse for fourth and Gary Roberts in fifth.

&= nbsp; The Pure Stock twenty lapper was a wild and wooly affair with a twenty-six car-starting field taking the green. Things got off to a raucous start as Norm Whittemore and Jamie Rosh got hooked together on lap two while running in the front and the field piled up behind this duo. When the race resumed, Mike Wilbur took command and never looked back. The real race was for second as Jim Cornell Jr. had his hands full trying to hold off point leader Bill Rampe, rookie driver Rich Green and Jess Snell. That s the way they finished in this highly competitive race.

&= nbsp; Next week will feature a regular card of Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Four Cylinder Modifieds, Four Cylinder Stocks and Mini Sprints. Gates are set to open at 4:00 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 6:30.

&= nbsp; Cliff Pierce led the first three laps of the fifteen-lap Four Cylinder Modified event before the specter of the ten-time winner Steve Hill loomed into his mirror. Once there Hill made it look easy as he took the lead on lap four and put it on cruise the rest of the was for his eleventh of the year. Chaser Scott Allen came home second followed by Ben Bushaw in third, Pierce in fourth and Alan Bush in fifth.

&= nbsp; Jeff Wilcox Jr. was the early pace setter in the Four Cylinder Stocks before a highflying Rick Angle took over on lap four. Dan Talada became the chaser as Angle started to open up a little lead. Just past the halfway point, last week s winner Shawn Mills moved by Talada for the number two spot and set sail after Angel. Mills caught him on lap thirteen and powered by on the next lap for the lead and the win. Angle came home second followed by Talada in third, Chris Smith in fourth and Rich Talada in fifth.

&= nbsp; Steve Klock led wire to wire in the fifteen laps Mini Sprint feature. Klock started on the outside pole position and fended off many challenges by Bruce Brown in this non-stop fifteen lapper.
