McCREADIE RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE AT CAYUGA COUNTY

WEEDSPORT, NY...Bob McCreadie, from Watertown, NY, earned his third Cayuga County feature victory of the year last Sunday during the running of the special Johnston Paper-Hofmann Hots Cyper-Series broadcast over the Internet. James Spano, from nearby Auburn, also earned his third win of the year at the speedway taking the top honors in the 20-lap sportsman main event.

Jeff Dutton held off Roy Rogers and Kirk Ekcross to win the special Bonanza Bus rally. Tim Hettis won the 40-lap enduro. The 35-lap DIRT Modified main saw Scott Ridley grab the lead at the drop of the green and hold off both Ray Bliss jr, and Jimmy Phelps during the opening laps. Phelps was finally able to pass Ridley for the lead on lap seven. But his lead fell to the "barefoot wonder" Bob McCreadie, who passed Phelps on lap 12, just before the caution flew when Jay Hopkins slowed on the back chute.

McCreadie held strong on the restart and actually was able to pull away to a ten car advantage. Only Billy Decker seemed to process enough speed to catch the high flying "Master of Going Faster." The yellow flew a second time on lap 25 when Ray Bliss Jr. slowed on the track One lap later the yellow popped out again when Al McCoy looped his mount on the back stretch.

Decker now had lapped traffic between himself and McCreadie. But both of them held a multi-car advantage over the rest of the top runners. Danny Johnson was running third and looking for a way around the Decker machine. With just five laps remaining, Johnson was able to pull off the move to claim the runner-up position. Decker would eventually finish fourth, almost in a dead heat to the line. Ward was declared third by mere inches. Decker finished fourth followed by Chuck Bower.

The 20-lap Sportsman feature saw three lead changes take place. Russ Hefti was the leader of record from the opening circuit to lap 7. Rodney Plantz took over the lead on lap 8 and held off the advances of Hefti for lap-after-lap. A lap fifteen restart saw the lead fall to Rodney Plantz. Plantz, who has never won here at Cayuga County looked to have the field covered. That is until lap 15, on a restart, Spano took the lead for good. Four cautions slowed the event. The worst accident of the day took place on lap six, when four cars tangled on the back stretch.

Taking the victory was Spano, mere inches ahead of Plantz. Russ Hefti finished third followed by Greg Doust and rookie candidate, Matt Sheppard.

The Bus Bonanza race saw six buses take the green flag and then proceed to put on a driving demonstration, with the buses running inches apart and in a tight pack.

Jeff Dutton inched out the 6 lap victory followed closely by Roy Rogers.

This Sunday will be the final night of 358-modified points. Also on tap will be a non-points sportsman feature as the top guns head to Utica-Rome for a Mr. DIRT Series. A 40-lap enduro will round out the program.

The Cayuga County Fair Speedway opens each Sunday at 5 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.. The Cayuga County Fair Speedway is located just minutes from Exit 40 of the New York State Thruway.
